i got bitten by fire ants today for the first time. i was picking up leaf litter from the yard and happened to pick up a complete colony at one point. i felt a prick and thought "oh great, another misquito." then another prink, then all at once, the pricks turned into a sharp burning pain in my pinky and moving towards the rest of my hand. i looked at my hand and couldn't even see my pinky. it was covered with fire ants. i haven't felt my heart truly jump in ages. the only jump you feel when you're sincerely scared my a horror flick or someone taps your unsuspecting shoulder in a dark, eerie room. i shook them off and crushed ones that bit on for dear life. i looked at eric not know what to do next. instructed to go wash my hands under cold water, i walked briskly towards the house. i even started to run as the pain intensified. i washed my hand and let it sit under cold running water. eric came in and gave me a piece of ice to help the swelling go down. i didn't know fire ants were this lethal, but they are...they really are. my finger is now only slightly swollen where it bends in the middle. other than that, it feels numb as if it's remembers how the pain felt and is now trying to warn me from letting it happen again. believe, i'll try my best to avoid the situation or one like it again. i'm doing fine now, but if you wish to send 'get well cards', flowers, candy, or whole dinners, you know where to reach me...
i watched The Very Long Engagement tonight with Audrey Tautou. it was amazing. it had the same director from Amelie and a lot of the same characters. the film was beautiful for its artistic side and bittersweet for its plot. i highly recommend it. nobody does a thoughtful movie like the french. if you haven't heard of Amelie, shame on you and shame on me for not introducing you to it in the first place. again, you know where to reach me...
i feel like Amelie in the beginning of the film. let down my love and now fulfilling myself with life's little pleasures. some include knitting, reading good books, playing with Barney, rearranging my room to meet my feng shui, and writing in this here journal.
enjoy.
