I haven't heard about the job I interviewed for last Thursday. Boo. :( So tomorrow morning, I'm going to call and see if a decision has been made. I'll just explain that I've got a couple of other options that I'm entertaining and I need to know where I stand on this one.
After I have determined what is happening with this job, I will then call the Executive Chef at the Museum of Civilization. He really wants to meet with me to discuss a full-time opportunity. And it's part of the same company as the job above...so the compensation package will be pretty similar. Sweet.
I turned down the job at the National Gallery. While I had fun at the trial shift, it was not a guaranteed full-time position (even though it was advertised as full-time). In fact, the guy who offered me the job couldn't even guarantee me 20 hours a week! Which is odd, because he told me that he had just let someone go and someone else had given their 2 weeks notice. And then on Friday he called and asked if I could help him out this week, as he'd just had someone else quit. Yet he still couldn't guarantee me a certain number of hours per week. Plus, why are people quitting? I decided that since this is my career, I wasn't going to take a job just for the sake of a pay check. I deserve better than that.
In part-time job news, I am officially an employee of Thyme & Again Creative Catering. For the past 3 months, I have been working as more of an independent contractor. After Saturday's gig, the kitchen manager handed me an employee package...so I will be on the payroll, my deductions will be taken care of, I will get 4% vacation pay and she's pretty sure she can give me 15-20 hours per week. Which is sweet. And they'd all be evenings and weekends....so I can still work during the day.
