Tales in the Continuing Saga of my Barbados life

So I think I am destined to be single. *lmao* Long story short: Henderson was a money seeking jerk.

Long story: I arrived last Tuesday and met Henderson outside the Sunset Crest office. The first thing he says is, "Princess, I was wondering if I could borrow $300." Turns out he'd quit the beach job and had been fired from the restaurant. I told him no, I just didn't have that kind of money. At 6pm, he says, "I have to go out for a bit and take care of some stuff. I'll be back in an hour." At 8pm he called me and said it was taking longer than he thought. He'd call me back in a bit. At 8:30, he called me again and said he wasn't going to get his stuff done that night. He'd meet me back at the villa the next morning. So I said, "fine. in that case, I'm going to bed, I'm exhausted." At 12:20am, my cell phone started ringing. It was Henderson, and since he knew I was in bed, I decided to ignore it. Then the phone in my villa started ringing but I ignored it as well. I was just drifting off to sleep again when I hear Henderson yelling my name. He was standing outside my bedroom window calling me. I honestly thought he'd broken into my villa. I actually screamed! I let him in (cuz I was so shocked and not really awake) and I noticed that he had 5 bags of stuff with him. He then informs me that the reason he came back that night was because someone had pulled a knife on him! Um...that doesn't make me comfortable.

I didn't sleep very well that night and the next morning I was up at 6:30am. At 9:15, I left to go pay my villa bill and get some groceries. I took all my money and my passport with me. Henderson said he'd meet me at the store and help me carry the groceries home. I finished my groceries and Henderson was nowhere to be found. So, I walked home myself. When I got back to the villa, he was gone. I called him and he informed me that he'd had to go meet some friends. I told him I was going to the beach and he said that he didn't want to go anywhere near that beach. At that point, I was so uncomfortable, I didn't want him anywhere near me. Wednesday night I called him, said that I had gotten too much sun and I wasn't feeling good. He would need to find somewhere else to stay. Thursday morning, I packed up all his stuff and put it outside on my porch. I called him again and told him it was there to be picked up. I never saw or heard from him again.

This past Tuesday, I had a very interesting conversation with Denise, my cleaning lady. She informed me that Henderson always found white women to attach himself to. Turns out, while I was there in February, he was actually staying with another woman in the same condo complex. To say I feel like an idiot is an understatement. And the week before I arrived for this visit, she saw him in the grocery store with another white woman. Denise told me she was so worried when she saw me talking to him. She was so pleased when I told her I'd kicked him out. She said, "I knew you had a head on your shoulders. I'm glad you proved me right."

I did ask some questions around the restaurant and I found out that Henderson was fired because he'd been caught doing drugs on premises, and during a shift. I also talked to the owner of the restaurant (remember Henderson had told me that he'd gotten me a job if I wanted it?) well, the owner had no idea what I was talking about.

However, I didn't let any of that ruin my trip. I still am in love with the island of Barbados. It still makes my soul happy. I am so glad to have gotten the information I did about renting an apartment there. I made some new friends this trip. And I hooked up with Marvin again. *lmao* I know...bad me.

So, I didn't do any sightseeing this trip. I spent 9 wonderful days swimming at the beach in Holetown, swimming with the sea turtles and going to karaoke nights.

My moving date is September 4th. Next week I will be making a trip to the Barbados High Commission here in Ottawa and figuring out what I need to do to get a visa. I also applied for 3 jobs while I was there: 2 at hotels (for housekeeping, reservations and reception) and one at a university in their Admissions office.

I love the atmosphere down there. i love the people, the food, the weather. But most importantly, I love who I am down there. I also think it helps that I'm so far away from my sisters and all the drama that comes with that. :D
