NYCC 2010!

It's 10/10/10 at 10pm.

Time to update this thing!

So, New York Comic Con/Anime Festival was this weekend! It was pretty much the best weekend ever, and I'm sad for it to be over, but here's the rundown:

Friday:
Got up early, got into my Impulse costume (partially). I wore it on the Friday because it was not my best costume. In fact, it was my worst costume XD since the other one was lolita/costume (and very cute) and the other was simply lolita (not a costume, despite what unwitting complimenters thought =-_-=). Jess was dressed as Gorilla Grodd. XD

Jess and I drove to Jersey City to the Path, which was an adventure as neither of us had ever done the Path from there before (I had from Harrison, way back when, with my mom. lol Not much experience to go on there). Anyway, we parked, and then we had superfuntimez trying to figure out how to take the Path train. XD How does I Path train? After we finally got it down, we met Jen in the city and grabbed some huge salads to have for lunch later. Then we were off to con! I was nerd-followed once. By a guy. :| He was nice, but whyyyy do awkward nerds think it's ok to just follow and talk to me? *sigh*

So, returning to the Impulse-costume-that-didn't-turn-out-that-great theme. It attracted way more attention than I thought it would! Many people wanted my picture and even noted that they understood who I was supposed to be. Flash cosplayers stopped me for pictures with them. XD Girls stopped me, fangirled, and chatted with me about Young Justice. XD It was boss. Although the Jay Garrick that I stopped for a photo thought I was Jesse Quick because I had boobs. =>_>= Impulse =/= Jesse!

So at this con, I was all about the signings. I had them all scheduled in my Blackberry. I first went to get Mark Waid to sign a comic I had picked up from the boxes in the sales booths. He understood my costume and liked it. XD I was so floaty after that moment.

I hit up the dealer's room like a madwoman. Got me some BABY stuff from the Kinokuniya booth. :)

I ran into some people I knew, also. Good ol' Montclair people like Kevin, Bobby, and Eric. And random people I know from the internet, like JayEll. XD Met some cute lolitas as well even though I wasn't in lolita that day (my huge Meta glitterbag was a dead giveaway).

Hm, basically Friday was full of shopping and wandering. XD I visited the NYAF Artist Alley (which was separate from the NYCC Alley) and bought some cute lolita stuff, too.

When the day was winding down, Jess and I got some Starbucks (Grodd sipping coffee lol) and were going to sit down on some random floorspace by bag check and meet up with Jen when she was out of a panel. So we did, but Jess went off to the bathroom to change her clothes, and I stayed with all our stuff. While sitting there, I was noticed and asked for more pictures by a few people.

I'll set this story aside for a second to mention that I know a few comic writers and artists by their names and their work, but I have no idea what any of them look like, which makes going to signings a bit awkward. ("Is that him? I think that's him. Oh, no, the sign says it's Some Other Guy... Oops." Yeah.)

SO. While I was sitting there, another guy came by and asked me for a picture. I stood up as usual and got ready to pose, and the guy said to me, "I used to draw for Impulse!" and I looked at the guy taking the picture, who then said, "This is Humberto Ramos; he used to draw Impulse!" THEN I spazzed like an idiot, not sure whether to continue with the picture or hurriedly find some random scrap in my purse for him to sign. XDDDD In the end, I wound up posing and then fawning for a few seconds. I was Adventure Time spaghetti arms flailing in happiness (and this is when Jen had shown up, and she was looking at me from bag check like "wtf?"). THEN as we were leaving, Mr. Ramos caught me again and asked for another picture, this time on his iPhone so he could tweet it. XD And he did! With the caption "I found my child!!"

But the story doesn't stop there! Tune in to Saturday for more on this. XD

After we left the convention center, we went to Chipotle and got it to go. Then we ate it on the steps around Madison Square Garden before saying goodbye to Jen, who was taking the train home.

Jess and I returned to the hotel and watched the end of Jennifer's Body before crashing.

Saturday:

Saturday morning, we got up and got into Day 2 of costumes (I was a lolita version of the Flash, aka my scarlet Angelic Pretty JSK with a red polo under it, a funfoam Flash symbol on my chest, yellow rainboots, red leggings, and some random lightning bolt accessories with a red beret). Then we were joined at the hotel by none other than our Jenny P! She was dressed as River Tam from Firefly/Serenity. :) That day, Jess was dressed as one of the minions from Despicable Me (which was adorable btw).

We all got stuck in traffic on the way to the Path station. XD But eventually, we got there (YAY!) and took the Path once again into the city. We grabbed some breakfast and lunch for later at this little bistro on the way. They had pomegranate seeds. Mmmmmmm. Then we walked our way over to the Javits Center again. :) Jenny P had to pick up her badge, so Jess and I went a-wandering. After picking up Ms. P, we back to Artist Alley, and I hunted down Mr. Ramos's table. I intended on asking for an autograph and, if he had time, a quick (key word there: quick!) sketch. I found his table, as he was telling the guy in front of me that he was all booked for commissions. I waffled, but I thought I'd ask for a quick sketch anyway (worst he could say was "No, I'm all booked.") So I walked up, clarified that I was the Impulse from yesterday (probably was hard to recognize me without the huge 60s sunglasses and half-assed costume), and he said he remembered me. So I asked if I could have an autograph and maybe a quick sketch, and he nodded. I handed him a piece of cardboard from the back of one of my comics XD. And he started to sketch. And sketch. And sketch. And shade. And shade. And make corrections. And then he picked up one of his artbooks and tore the wrapping off, flipped to the page with an Impulse print, signed it (with XOXO), and handed it to me with my sketch. I stared at him, and he said, "For you." <33333 He just gave it to me! For being a dedicated fan of a character that he had once drawn for. <3333 I was floored. What a nice guy!!! I couldn't believe how amazing that was. It made my convention. Completely!

Guys, I can't do this in order, I just don't remember what happened when. XD But at some point Jenny P and I took a break and sat to watch Star Trekkin, which is an improv group who does improvised Star Trek episodes. It was hilaaaarious!!! I love improv. They were great, so you should check them out if you get the chance. XD

Lots of people liked Jess's costume, which was awesome. XD She got a bunch of pictures taken. People seemed to like mine, too, though I was called many different things (Lolita Flash, Lady Flash, THE Flash, etc). XD Everyone seemed to think it was a cute costume.

While resting up in the Anime Artist Alley, a tiny boy dressed as the Flash walked by and was staring at me through crowds of people as he walked. I smiled and waved at him, and he waved back. XDDDD EPIC CUTE MOMENT. <333

So, Saturday I realized that, since I had gotten one of the planned signatures (Waid) already, I could actually go back for another one, and that Danny might appreciate one. :) So I was all set to buy another random Flash comic written by Waid to give to Danny, but then I realized that I had my Funco Flash plushy with me (part of my costume sorta lol). It hit me that I could have Mr. Waid sign that and give Danny the comic from the day before! :D So I did. Again, Mr. Waid appreciated my costume (though I have no idea if he remembered me from Friday lol). I'm also pretty sure I was the first person to ask him to sign a plushy. XD He was very careful with it and even drew me a Flash symbol next to his name. <3

I also met Gail Simone! She signed my Birds of Prey issue -- right over Barbara's chest. XD I think she did it on purpose.

Saturday I also started my Impulse collecting. I bought 22 issues (not in order) for about $16. lol Rooting through boxes, hooray! I had planned on buying more, but I couldn't carry much more! However, I did also buy an issue of Young Justice, which I will mention later. :D

Jenny P found her Serenity booth on Saturday. XD They basically just had a bunch of Serenity-related things, and Jenny P bought her new favorite t-shirt. And also, they were giving all of the proceeds to a charity that the cast is involved in, so that was super awesome.

I met malicemizer_luv :). She looked very cute in her AP and all decked out in sweets jewelry and accessories! It's always nice to meet people.

Saturday was crooooowded. I look back now and realize I couldn't really see or do much because there were too many damn people! =x_x= I got to do the stuff I wanted to do, though, so that was good.

After we left the con, it was time for dinner again. We went to Five Guys, which was crowded with more con nerds, and we had to swoop up a table as soon as someone would leave. XD It was kind of funny.

Sunday:

This morning! We woke up and checked out of the hotel. Today I was going to be wearing my Wonder Cookie replica skirt with a BABY cutsew (normal clothing...for me). Jess was going to be a Pokemon Professor, and Jenny P wore her new favorite t-shirt. XD We went to Dunkin Donuts right next to our hotel and then hopped the Path train once again! Hit up the bistro to grab lunch for later. :)

Upon arriving, we went back to Anime Artist Alley. The line for the fashion show was forming. I had decided not to go, because since Sunday was a short day, I wanted to spend as much time on the floor as I could and didn't really want to sit still! But, waiting in line was none other than Scout and Nicole (and a third lolita, whose name I didn't know)! They looked very nice in their loli. We chatted and got some pictures together, and it was nice to see them. :) Also in line were Katie Lynn and James who I also haven't seen in forever!

Then we went back to Comic Con Artist Alley, because we still had some tables we wanted to spend time at and possibly get autographs (I was quite content with my con experience at this point, so any extra starstruck moments would have been icing on an already delicious cake).

I saw archfaith and her friend, whom I had also chatted with briefly on Friday (and I feel like a jerk because I forgot her username and wanted to add her =x_x=). They were both very nice and looked beautiful! We took some pictures, and they invited me to hang out with them, which made me very happy! But I was too busy star-chasing. XD

First we went to the Tiny Titans table (where Art Baltazar was signing) and had him draw us quick Tiny Titans characters. XD Jenny P got a Nightwing (with a disco pop collar), Jess got Coach Lobo, and I got Kid Flash. He colored them with crayons! <3

My tentative plan was to also try to get Todd Nauck at his table (which is why I bought the YJ issue!) and get his signature, but he hadn't been there any of the times I happened by his table earlier in the weekend, so I wasn't hoping for much. But it was 1pm, and the sign said he'd be back at 2, so...we proceeded to kill an hour in Artist Alley. Which was actually easy since we didn't get to see much the first two days (Friday was hectic with shopping and excitement, Saturday was too damn crowded). So we browsed and admired and purchased (in some cases). Then it was time for me to stand around waiting for Mr. Nauck. XD Which I did, and I told him that his version of Impulse was the first I ever encountered, and it was what made me fall in love with him (which is true since I read Young Justice before I actually read Impulse). He was very appreciative and took the time to ask my name and chat me up a little. I had him sign my comic, and I also spotted a YJ print in his book, so I bought one of those and had him sign that, too. He was really nice! <3

After that, my con was basically finished. I did some more shopping (managed to snap up Impulse #1 for reasonably cheap) and wandering and pictures of and for people. :) It's also worth mentioning that Sunday of Comic Con is always Kids' Day, so there were naturally lots of adorable children dressed as superheroes. XD I made it a point to say hi to them and address them as whatever character they were. The little Beast Boy was cute. XD But I think the tiny Deathstroke wins Kids' Day. Either that or the tiny Kick Ass and Hit Girl (what are they doing watching that movie anyway!??).

So, with that, Sunday wound down, and sadly, so did Comic Con. :( Sigh. But it was a great weekend, and I definitely have many great memories of it. <3 And inside jokes such as BEE-BOO, NYAF being like the Troll Market from Hellboy 2, making fun of people with Free Hugs signs, and endless jokes about Creepy Uncle Geoff.

And, because it's fun, here are the tweets from the weekend. XD In order from most recent to least.
