Yeah. I remember I kept thinking you were crazy, telling as much as you did. Actually I think I even SAID so. Several times.
I make something much simpler, but I don't share, because if you know every step to getting the best result, there are a thousand million artistic people out there who will be able to follow directions. It's coming up with it in the first place that's the real trick. It's very simple and anyone could do it but it took me over a year to figure out how BEST to bond pins into hairsticks so that they couldn't be snapped free. Other people could figure it out too, and have, of course...but MOST just want the knowledge for free. I'm not giving away a year of my life for free and then letting people cut me out with my own hard work, NO THANKS. They can figure it out themselves. And they CAN.
This is only up to the point where I don't care, of course, or with people already working in the same field who ARE doing their own work and are willing to share in turn so that they're contributing or trading rather than scavenging. Now I don't care about hairsticks any more so I don't care if people ask how to make them. (Most of them still won't, of course. Everyone looks at things and says 'Oh, I could make that myself', and then they NEVER DO. It takes a lot of time to get set up just in materials. Heck just finding SOURCES takes a long time.)
You really did all the footwork for anyone who wanted to try making masks. Made it really easy for them to get into it.
Anyway it'll be interesting to see your new stuff, I definitely agree that you shouldn't share quite so much this time :) (If people want more methods, they can get to work developing their own. Heck, if you like what you're doing at ALL, you usually end up developing parts of a method just using someone ELSE's method. You eventually have your own way of using said method that isn't quite the same as everyone else's.)
Still resisting glass, eh? Heh heh. (I'm glad you're not into glass, because I'm crazy about glass and would spend a fortune. Masks I have no use for, unfortunately, except as decoration, which I use sparingly in any case. Or fortunately, I guess. Heck, I have no use for my OWN product. You can barely stick a clip pin in this ultra-fine pixie mop of mine.)
It really was an almost self-destructive impulse, I have to be honest. My brother has a saying; "The success is in the secret", and I intentionally flew in the face of that.
You know I love a challenge though. It wasn't enough for me to be the "best" at my method, because that was an easily-won plaudit, since I was the ~only~ one using my method. I want to the the best...period.
I think with my new ideas that can really happen. :) I'll give you a call (or see you in person!) soon and tell you what is up my sleeve. ;)
