Autumn Garden

Why do I get a wild bug up my butt to do serious gardening when the weather is most inhospitable?  Last time it was like 100 degrees outside, this time it was raining.  *shrug*

Anyway, my black-eyed-susans are done blooming, which made me sad and makes my garden look dead, so I decided to freshen things up with a layer of fresh mulch and some new ornamental grass and pretty ceramic pots of mums in fall colors.

These aren't quite blooming yet but they'll be lovely...sort of orangey-yellow.  I looked for hardy mums, but no luck.  They're either all sold or ugly.  So I'm trying these hothouse mums in pots.  I can just haul the pots into the garage for the winter.  If they make it through the winter...fine.  If not, in the spring I'll just plant spring annuals in 'em and put them back in the garden.  I paid half price for these pretty blue stoneware pots and if I shelter them over the winter they'll be good for years.

Just look at my vinca vines!  They really took well.  Those were tiny 2x2 inch plastic pots with little tiny sprigs of vinca in June (only cost 49 cents apiece)...just look at them now!  The mulch and landscaping fabric keeps them pretty tame though.  They look dramatic but they're only spreading from two spots.

So, the whole yard...

I'm rather proud of my landscaping prowess this season.  ^_^
