Ohio
Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.
Gotta get down to it
Soldiers are gunning us down
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?
Gotta get down to it
Soldiers are gunning us down
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?
Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.
--Neil Young
I remember my white-hot anger upon first hearing this song. How did this rich rock star DARE to capitalize on this tragedy that had so affected so many of us? Passing years have tempered my feelings, and knowing now as I do that Young shares my political leanings has helped too. But something of my original resentment remains.
Thirty-nine years. I remember it as if it were last week.
Peace to you all.
