Liz & Dick

Grant Bowler was awesome as Richard Burton.

The hair and make up was really bad. I would even say that was my biggest complaint about it. I took the tv movie for what it was and that was glamorous, trashy camp. If you can accept that then for the first hour and a half you might actually enjoy it.

While I no longer consider myself a Lindsay Lohan fan, I had hoped she would do an excellent performance. While she could have done worse, she could have done really better. The accent was in and out. I’m very picky on accents and really that’s all I wanted to have done properly. It made me think she didn’t do thorough research or watch Liz’s movies, interviews or listen to Liz’s speech patterns.

If it wasn’t called Liz & Dick and we didn’t know she was playing Elizabeth Taylor, than I would have thought she did a good job at playing a selfish, self destructive, insecure actress. Problem is she was supposed to be playing Ms. Taylor and I only found myself believing it in two scenes.

You can actually pull off great acting even with a campy script and horrible make up, Grant Bowler did so it’s hard for me to get behind the people that say LiLo was bad because of the “awful script and hair” when her co-star did what I consider a award nominating performance with the same awful script and every now then bad hair.

But I can’t get behind the really harsh critics that say Lindsay was really horrible and the movie was horrible as well. It and her wasn’t. While both could have been way better with some effort, it could have been a lot worse.
