Okay, so third week in a row for updates. Maybe it's a trend.
Fandom
I have watched the NCIS episodes of JAG that introduced the series. It's really interesting to see the changes they made in the characters from JAG to the first episode of NCIS. I wish they'd kept the glasses for DiNozzo, he looked really hot in them. I'm very glad they toned Ducky's lasciviousness down a bit. It came across as sleazy rather than funny. I think they may have transferred some of that to DiNozzo. Aside from some of the continuity of dates, Gibbs seems the most like his NCIS incarnation. I'm guessing they also traded Blackadder for Kate. I don't think she's mentioned again.
I've also watched a few episodes of Dark Angel. And read all the recaps. God, what a grim show. And even though I haven't gotten there yet (and may not), I hate what they did to Max and Logan in second season. That is just a little to contrived for me to deal with. Anyone know a nice AU long novel that fixes it?
leela_cat mentioned to me that there was a
Severus Big Bang. in the works. How did I not know about this? For those of you who don't know, a big bang is a writing fest with a 20k word minimum, usually with no maximum. And that means lots of long stories about our potions master. I'm totally keeping an eye on that com. I actually have several stories I could finish for it, too.
Speaking of Harry Potter, has any one heard anything more about
snarry_games? Even if I'm playing with Gibbs these days, I'm pretty sure I'll do that again. I love that fest.
Fiction:
What I wrote this week: My Gibbs/Fornell story is going to a second beta tonight. My Gibbs/Patrick Jane story needs a beta -- anyone out there know both series? I also have finished 2 episode tags I need to get beta'd.
What I want to write this week: I still want to write the second story in the Gibbs/Fornell series.
I also had a thought about an AU where Logan Cale is a Washington Post investigative journalist and maybe first cousins with Tony DiNozzo. I can see him getting in the way of Gibbs' investigation. The sparks would fly. I'm thinking this would be one of those stories I'd write for me alone, since I doubt anyone else would care.
As much as I think there's a lot of canon evidence for Gibbs/DiNozzo, I can't quite believe that Gibbs would get involved with a subordinate.
What I want to read: I want to read a long, well written Gibbs story. I'd even settle for Gibbs/Abby. Anyone got anything?
What I want to rec:
Tears by Lady Ra. This one is with a caveat. It's not perfect by any means, but it's long -- 37,400 words. I liked the plot and it was written well enough that I was entertained by it. I also really liked Gibbs and Tony's interaction at the end. That bit of Gibbs characterization rang true to me.
Other stuff:
On the facebook front, someone who I knew in high school contacted me. I'm kind of weirded out by that since high school was like, thirty years ago. Part of me remembers being friends with this person, but on the other hand, that was a lifetime ago. But I looked at her friends list and God, I recognized a lot of those names, even if I didn't remember the people.
Work is a bit slower this week. Yay. I was starting to think it would never slow down and I'd be burned out pretty soon. But this week has seen fewer crisis' than last week.
I'm looking forward to
muskratJamboree coming up in 10 days. I can't wait. And I just found out that
lanning got in, too. So, yay for that. I know who of my immediate friends are going, but who else on my flist is going to be there?
