cry "havoc" and unleash the dogs of YULETIIIIIIIIIIDE

it's the best time of the year!!! I finally got my dear yulegoat letter up, if anybody else is like me and likes to read the requests before assignments even come out and speculate about the fic that may be written this year.

also in this post, because why not: my dear friend orangecrush1189 asked me a while ago for recs that might be good for someone who's never seen a vid before. I thought about that a lot, since thinking about vids is one of my favorite things, natch. idk if there's a best way to ease someone into vids, but I think one of the major barriers to understanding them is not having the visual vocabulary to pick up what any given vid is trying to do without external prompting? so I decided that maybe it would make sense to show someone a few good examples of the more common types of vids -- as soon as you realize they're not all the same and they don't all use the same vocabulary, it gets way easier! (for most things, anyway. there's plenty of vids out there that I still don't really get.) if y'all have suggestions for different ways to introduce a friend to the fine art of vid appreciation, I'd love to hear them too!
