Hi! Hihihihi!

Jul 03, 2008 15:55

So, check it out! It is More Joy Day again, and my tabs are getting out of hand! I am feeling very joyful today. There is a lot of squee on my flist! vsee sent me a daisy, and I got an anonymous polar bear! _unhurt_ made a whole post about my other other tv boyfriend!. YAY!

I'm not very organised at all. I don't really have anything fannish prepared, though I WILL try to get my BDtH picspam winnowed for posting by the end of the day. Jeez, I've had since the end of March to do that! What gives, Meres? Falling down on the picspam job, I am.

What I DO have is a whole tonne of pictures from my Pride/Canada Day weekend with Nos! That is joyful, right? Right!

So, first! The crowds were redonkulous. The news was saying there were upwards of a million people downtown just for pride. These are picture of upper Yonge Street, looking north and south, which was closed from Bloor to Gerrard for the parade.

And lo, who should be surveying the scene but Hugh! Looking all serious and billboardy. Go, Hugh! I am soooo looking forward to that show. There is little more joyful than Joe Dick and Keith Mars FIGHTING CRIME!

Nos and I scored a pretty sweet spot right up against the barrier! Go Nos and her elbow skillz! We're both too short to be anywhere else, anyhow.

It was hot in the sun. People beside us were making fun of the Torontonians for using umbrellas as parasols, but I totally would have, too. Fortunately we were in the shade of a building.

Parade, yay! It officially started at 2pm, but we were so far from the beginning at Church St. that it took about 45 minutes to get to us. Plus sections of the parade periodically had to stop to let streetcars through on College St.

There was a lot of corporate sponsorship this year! But hey, I don't object to the visuals.

I wonder how you get to be the Grand Marshal?

That is totally a macramé shirt. Rock on. Hee.

Whoop whoop! Trying to get the crowd to make more noise was met with middling success. It was really a pretty sedate Pride Parade! Oh, Canada. So polite in crowds.

Drag geishas! :D

The flag. :D

Queer First Nations and Two-Spirits. \o/

A lot of unions were marching as well.

The Trojan guys. Hehe.

Boot malfunction!

Very fabulous dresses. :D At least the hoop skirts allow a breeze?

Dog in a dress! So cute.

Now that is a skill!

Go research! \o/

Cowprint assless chaps. Oh, man.

Fairy wrangling? :D

Confetti! \o/ There needed to be more confetti, I think, even if the street sweepers wouldn't agree.

Crazy stilts! They look like running prostheses.

Balloooooooons!

There needed to be free vodka, I think! :P

This one was a mystery. But okay! :D

Yay, PFLAG!

Aw, his parents rock.

Supporting adoption, yay!

Pimp my city bus.

The political parties got in on the act, too.

And the schools. Go, Ryerson!

His sign says "Representing queers who can't march in Saudi Arabia." He got a big cheer.

U of T.

A really awesome drum band from the university.

The engineers.

York University.

How many hours in the gym to have billboard-worthy pecs? *g*

Nos bought us wee pride flags. She handed hers to a little boy who was squished up between us trying to see the parade. He gave it back once he was done rocking out.

Woo, paramedics!

The disaster bus? there were, like, fifteen stretchers in there.

This was the first year the Canadian Forces marched with the parade (IIRC the same for the British forces in the UK). Good on them, and about time considering the chaplains have been performing same-sex marriages for servicemen and women for a couple years now.

Then there were many police! Not Mounties this year, though. Nos and I were disappointed.

Durham even has a special Pride cruiser. :D

The firemen stopped periodically to hose down the crowd. Nos had her umbella out in preparation, but they gave our part of the block a miss.

Tiny train!

The gay pilots were having too much fun, I think. They had one of the best floats.

Hee.

Fruits on parade. Har har.

\o/

Random flag-bearer!

Those things are weapons!

I tried to get a movie of the flag twirling, but it didn't work. :( They were pretty good!

Awesome costumes.

Blurry, but still cool!

Nos and I agreed that the dress looked as if it were made of placemats. Heh.

That's a lot of paper cranes!

Gay rugby club. They had a chant. :D

Bwahahaha. Only in Canada, you guys.

The NDP! That's actually Jack Layton on the bike. He was the only party leader in the march.

The CAW had a pretty righteous float!

The end! The crowd dispersed quite quickly after the parade was over. Nos and I considered sticking around for the giant block party on Church St. that officially started around 7pm, but we were tired and thirsty, so we went in search of snacks and ended up at a Tim Horton's in Queen's Park, and the wandered back down to the GO station to get our bus.

Later that night we went with scarfe to see WALL-E, which is, like, the most adorable robot movie ever and you should go see it.

Nos had to work most of Monday, but I decided to hang around with them for until Canada Day. 'Cause I like them, or something. :P

We went down to the park to check out the festivites. Unfortunately bus schedules conspired so that I was unable to stick around for fireworks that evening. :(

Turtles!

There were many people in the park, and it was hot as blazes. We checked out the booths and ate Greek food and womanfully avoided buying jewelery at the craft booths (except scarfe, he manfully resisted the jewelery. Yep.)

THE END!

If you got all the way through that, I salute you. Now I must eat. Then maybe more picspam.

pictures, \o/, nos and i are total party girls, good times, pride 2008, rl, toronto, more joy day
