Help with GA plot for Meredith/Lexie story

First of all, I have to say I was THRILLED to stumble across this comm! I was convinced I was the only Lexideth shipper, and knowing that I'm not was a pleasant surprise!
Second of all, I need some help with a Meredith/Lexie fic I'm working on. I just started watching Grey's Anatomy last month and watched all 7 seasons consecutively to be caught up with Season 8 (which I finally completed last week.. yes, I have no life xD), and even though I've seen all the episodes, so much has happened that I'm having a hard time keeping track. I was hoping I could get some help. I'll put the details under the cut to avoid monopolizing the home page.
I have the following plot questions:
- What's going on between Meredith and Derek circa Lexie's first appearance? I remember that Derek tells Meredith he met a girl at Joe's, but I can't remember why things are weird between the two of them/why they're not together.
- I know Lexie studied in Boston, but where did she grow up?
I think that's all I need to know for now. I'll obviously post the story here once it's done, but I need to have those essential details down before I finish.
