So, I follow a lot of television critics on Twitter. (Pretty much I follow mostly critics and people behind the scenes of television shows.) Consequently, I was inundated with lists for the top shows of the year and the decade. I found that I didn't like a lot of the shows that were being listed. It made me feel a little inadequate that I consider myself a fairly major television fan, yet I didn't/don't enjoy these shows. Then, when trying to catch up on my Twitter today (which was an impossible task, as it has been too long and Twitter only goes back so far, sadly), I came across this article by Mo Ryan:
Not That Good or just Not For Me? which completely works for me.
I mean, I can understand why people love shows like The Shield, but as much as I love anti-heroes and complex morality, I can't ever see myself becoming invested in a show that has Vic (I think that is how you spell his name?) as the main "protagonist". I've never watched the show, and as much as I think I should, I probably never will. Or, I can totally appreciate the visual mastery and acting of Mad Men, but I'd prefer watching paint dry. (Well, no, probably not, but I'd have to consider the choice for awhile.) I know that people say that the slowness is part of the wonderful-ness of the show, but I found it to be too boring. I could go on about other shows, but I won't. I'm just glad that a respected television critic feels like I do at times. Give me my Castle or Burn Notice or whatever any day! :)
