For whatever reason, my fandom love at the moment is NCIS. (This is liable to change, even as soon as next week, but for now...) I don't know that many people who write Ziva-centric fic, though, and that was what I was in the mood to read. So, I went over to "the Pit" to see if I could find anything. After searching for Ziva as a main character, this is what I found. (I didn't actually look at all of them, as a couple looked decent, but were pairings (Ziva/Abby, Ziva/McGee) that I don't read.) All misspellings are by the authors, not me.
High SchoolThe NCIS Way
If the title alone weren't enough to put you off on the story (really, what is up with sticking all of the characters in high school together? How is that plausible or interesting in any fandom? But I digress...), here is the summary, "I know there's already a story wthis theme, but i wanted to do one post Kate.I entered the show after her, nothing against her.ZonyZivaTonyhints.Involves all characters tho, Zony main ones." Dear God. WTF is that? I couldn't force myself to click on the link to look at the story. I'm sure that it would be "interesting" in a car-crash kind of way.
Love's Letter,Right?
The summary wasn't spectacular, but it promised Ziva angst over possible love for Tony, so I figured I'd give it a shot. After the opening line (which includes "it was a dark and stormy night" and which is in quotation marks, despite the fact it isn't a quote of any kind), there was this wonderful paragraph... "She looked straight at him. She had abruptly moved from her desk what seemed ages ago to her. Ziva held her neatly folded secretary pare in her left hand. She had tears in her e3yes-he could see that, and she knew. She thought of hiding them, her tears, but she knows it is useless, she has already told herself she wouldn’t cry in front of him." I know that many people post their own snarky comments to their fanfic "reviews" but I don't know what more I can add. There really are no words. I mean, "tears in her e3yes" and she had to hide them! (The tears, not the e3yes.) And the switching between present and past tense to keep you guessing, oh, the suspense!
I also love what immediately follows... "He looked at her; he was just staring at her hand that held that suspicious paper. He had an uneasy feeling; unsure has to what it was. But now he looked into her deep dark eyes. He slowly managed to pull something out of his mouth." Do I want to know what was in his mouth? Was it Gibbs' cock? Because I know a lot of shippers are insisting that it slips in there on a regular basis.
And, really. Why do so many fanfic writers need to type out "Zee-vah" or "Ni-kee-tah" anyway? Can't the readers be trusted to imagine how Tony and Michael might be saying those names?
Confessions of a Building Friendship
Well, my first thought was, "a friendship with a building? What?" Then I realized what the author must have been going for, so I went on to the summary... "Ziva has a problem and needs to console with someone, a very special friend. They both need this now. This is Friendship and NO ROMANCE! This is also my first AgnstHurtComfort story. As you can tell,I'm not that great wsummaries.Pls Get Over it.:" I debated about "getting over it" and going to the next story, but I figured (for the sake of research) that I should check it out.
I'm not going to quote the whole opening, but let's just say that the first paragraph has Tony twice called "Anthony DiNozzo" and includes this snippet... "and was about to play (for the third time) “Blades of Glory”, his new favorite movie. (If you couldn’t tell.)" Wow, "Anthony DiNozzo", lover of classic movies, is now hooked on Blades of Glory? (Which has to be emphasized with an author's note?) The next paragraph introduces "his strong, beautiful, young partner; Ziva David", who has "a tear- streaked face and more welling up in her almond coloured eyes..." I want to know how to get faces to well up in my eyes! I think it would be a cool way to freak out the kids in my class.
The rest of the first screen's-worth (as I couldn't make myself scroll down) includes gems like, "‘She is twilightly’ thought Tony" and a letter that Ziva hands Tony (while she is standing next to him, sobbing uncontrollably) that reads "Tony, what I am about to tell you is very sacred. Do not repeat a single word. I love you and I am sorry that I fill you with this burden; you are the only one who I can properly confide to. I love you Tony, you are like a brother to me. Thank you in advance. I will be here for a shoulder to cry on later in life when/if you need me."
Who are those characters, and what did they do with the 'real' Ziva and Tony?
Underlying Woes
In this story, Ziva does some reflecting and decides that she has "the hots" for Gibbs. In fact, "And his smile, it was enough to make her, Ziva David’s, knees go weak." Because I am sure she always needs to be referred to by full name, even in her thoughts. (And, really, Ziva speaking colloquially? She really has "the hots" for him? Did the author not listen to any of her dialog over the past couple of seasons? *sigh*)
I just couldn't go farther than that assassination of Ziva's character, so I don't know what was done to poor Gibbs in the next section(s).
That last one had 176 reviews. (14 positive ones for the first chapter alone?!?!) That depressed me so much that I just couldn't go on. Anyone happen to know of anything Ziva or Ziva/Tony that they would like to recommend? A general case file (as long as it isn't focussed on McGee, as I just don't care too much about him) would be good as well. Sigh. I suppose I'm asking for too much.
Speaking of asking for too much, no one would happen to know of any Burn Notice stories other than the ones at
bn_coverstories, would they? I adore that show, but there is no fandom presence for it whatsoever. I know that it is on cable and all, but the lack of an Internet presence is still a little mystifying. (On a related note, if anyone has yet to see this wonderful show and has any desire to do so, I may or may not have links to share.) I refuse to believe that there are only a handful of decent stories in this fandom anywhere on the Internet, so if anyone knows of anything...
My cats would so do this if they had opposable thumbs! I shared it before, but if you haven't seen
Potter Puppet Pals in "The Mysterious Ticking Noise", I highly recommend it. (The boy who sings the song in my class has a father who is a music teacher, and he says that if it weren't for the end, he would use it as an example in his class.)
Finally,
Jack and Sawyer from Lost in "The F.U.N. Song". The girl I babysit for showed it to me when I watched her all weekend a little while ago. The way that the vidder put the clips to the song is really funny. (I like the video so much that I downloaded it to my ipod to show others.) Just a warning that the song tends to get stuck in your head after listening! *grin*
