Boo on it being cloudy again... although.. if I'm gonna walk 2 miles in the morning, I'd almost rather it be cloudy. I don't sweat as much. Not that I really mind sweating- goodness knows that after Summer Serve, I KNOW I don't mind it.
While I'm on that topic... Summer Serve was amazing. It was SO much more fun than I expected it to be and I met some amazing girls. It makes the idea of moving there a lot less nerve-racking knowing that I already have friends my age. And some of them either already live in Columbia or are gonna be coming down before the summer's over, so at some point we get to hang out again. A couple of them are voice majors, but most of them aren't- which is good because I wanted to make friends that weren't in my field. Anyway, so I thought going into Summer Serve that it would be more or less non-stop hardcore WORK... but it really wasn't. We only had one outdoor project- granted, it was the longest one and it was in the afternoon, but it was fun. I discovered that I sweat like a freaking BOY.. which is kind of.. annoying.. but oh well. I can live with that. There were around 30-35 of us there total and we split into 6 groups.. for every site there were 2 groups that went.. Friday morning my group and the other one went to a hospice, which wasn't quite as morbid as I thought it would be... we didn't actually interact with the patients, so.. although part of me would have liked to, most of me's glad we didn't. We just put gift bags together for them and made cross necklace things out of nails and wire.. which was a lot more dangerous of an undertaking than you might think. :P That afternoon we went to Habitat for Humanity... there were 2 houses and about 12 of us plus a few people working with Habitat... we (unequally) split up between the two houses... there were 8 Converse girls at one house and the other 4 of us were at the other one... and we painted.. for 3 and a half hours. It was about 100 degrees outside and since we were on the inside of the house, there was no breeze. When the group I was in (the smaller one) got to our house, there was one room already painted.. thankfully, it was the biggest one. But we finished off the rest of the house, which was 3 rooms, the hallway, 2 (i think) bathrooms, and closets. = lots and LOTS of sweating. But they took us to Bruster's afterwards, so that made up for it.. and it was just fun. Saturday morning my group went to a center for handicapped people (all ages) and I think that one was the most fun... we actually got to interact with the people there, so that made it really rewarding.
The roommate situation's gotten better... I've actually spoken to the girl now- she goes by Ann- I THINK it'll work out. She's really nice- she's double majoring in accounting and art, so the creative part is at least some common ground... besides that she loves coffee and tends to take a long time getting ready.. more common ground. The only thing is... she doesn't know how to drive yet. That's not going to hinder me any- I won't have a car, but I have a lot of friends that will- but it's a bit strange. Most people have learned how by the end of high school. It seems to me that she doesn't have a WHOLE lot of money (not that I do), so she must have gotten a good scholarship, which says a lot about her. From what I can tell, she's a Christian, so that's definitely a good thing, and, like me, she said she's pretty shy until you get to know her. I definitely plan on taking the time to get to know her and if it doesn't work out, we'll just switch. Right now our plan is to figure out what we need that we didn't bring once we get there, then go out that weekend and buy it together... the only fly in the ointment there is that neither of us have cars. But... I'm sure we'll figure something out. So.. if I don't just go ahead and buy a TV on my own, we'll get that together.. apart from that the only things we can really buy together are a dustbuster (easier than a vaccum) and a phone.
Anyway, I'm gonna go for a walk now. :)
