Last night Stuart came over for dinner and a movie. I made dilly chicken, which came out pretty good if I do say so myself (and I do), considering that I didn't have some of the normal ingredients that I normally use and had to improvise. The we watched Armageddon, which was a huge mistake for me. I got all girlie and just lost it at the end of the movie. I couldn't help it, it just made me miss my dad. So i called my mom, and during the conversation she inadvertently reminded me of what day it was (anniversary of dad's death) and now part of me feels like a huge heel for not remembering. I know I'm not, and that it's probably okay that I don't remember, cuz it doesn't mean that I'm forgetting him, but it still bugs me. But it's okay. I had a lovely talk with mom, and every things better now.
I realized I never explained the heading of my last post. The other night Allison and I went to ASDA, which is like a Super Wal-mart (it's owned by the same people in fact.) The store is two floors and you can take your cart to the second floor via the escalator (actually the travelator). Instead of stairs, its more of a moving ramp that you wheel the cart on and up you go. What's more fun is coming down the escalator. You're at a downwards angle, so there are grippy things on the ramp and rubber on the wheels so that the carts don't roll down. I was completely leaning on the cart and it wasn't moving. Such fun. Being in the ASDA also made me realize how much I miss American grocery stores. Here, you can only buy sour cream in a 142mL container (a half cup is 125 mL), they don't sell powdered drinks, and you're lucky if you can find chocolate chips. Those come in a 100g bag, so you need a gazillion to make chocolate chip cookies. ASDA's been the only place I've found them. We won't start on the cookies and crackers (They aren't bad just different, which I know is part of the reason I came. To experience something different). They also have more types of cream then I've ever seen. Single, double, whipping, coffee, squishing (whipped cream in a can), and sour to name a few. It gets frustrating trying to shop sometimes, especially when I assume that I'll be able to find something just because I can find it at home. I'm coping though, and when people come to visit, they'll just have to bring me gifts. :-)
