City Poet
For a boy whose yearbook dream had been living
in his own
discoveries and enthusiasms, not forced
to see himself
often criticized for not spending enough
time at his typewriter,
he talked a lot of artists into thinking they were terrific.
A revolving door of a city, keeping sailors
in trouble,
terribly anxious, always a matter of conjecture
to those around,
(we’re not sure if he was serious or not, maybe he was just
optimistic.)
