So last night's Castle had me squealing like a little girl - because Nathan Fillion dressed up as Mal in any context is fantastically awesome. My husband was laughing at my fangirl stupidity, but I suppose that means I get to laugh at him when he decides to fanboy. It happens, rarely, but it happens.
Yesterday I spent most of the day with a friend who went to the hospital with suspected appendicitis. Turns out that she only has a kidney stone, which will be painful and suck for a few days, but hopefully it will pass soon enough and she'll be right as rain. What I did find out yesterday was a lot about myself.
1) In a medical emergency, I am cool as a cucumber. Now, I more or less already knew this from my experience at Anime Expo, but it was hammered home yesterday.
2) After about the fourth time, simply hearing someone vomit no longer bothers me. I'm a sympathetic vomiter as a general rule, but being with my friend as she continually heaved yesterday more or less desensitized me to it. Of course I have no idea how long that will last.
3) Never underestimate the healing powers of a shower. When another friend showed up at the hospital to be moral support, I took the opportunity to go home and take a shower, as I had woken up, thrown clothes on, and went to pick up my friend from her house to get her to a doctor. I felt better after the shower (and a liberal application of my stress relief aromatherapy shower gel) and got back to the hospital in under an hour, which has to be some kind of speed record for me.
4) For all the crap I get from various people in my life about being unemployed, I've found that my being unemployed allows me to be available for my friends in an emergency situation. It's a tough call - gainful employment or available in emergency situations? Hmmmm....
At any rate, today will be much less exciting. I should probably call my insurance company and tell them that I bought a new car and see if they can get my insurance switched over from the T-bird to the Protege and I need to hem my party dress. Not. Exciting. At. All.
And I like it that way.
