The List from Megs
In response to this meme I was given the following list from dqbunny:
1. Tales of Symphonia ... the OVA
Oh gosh, where do I start? I remember when it was announced and I was so excited. Like, stupidly excited. I loved the game and the thought of it being animated really appealed to me. Of course, that was back when I spent a lot of my free time on the IMDb message boards instead of Tumblr or LJ, and I was a little surprised to see that a good chunk of the fandom - at least those active on the IMDb boards anyway - really disliked it. Sure, there were parts of it that I wasn't happy about, but I never expected it to follow the game exactly. I always knew things would be adapted and streamlined and for the most part it didn't bother me. I haven't seen the newest episode yet (is it even out subbed? I have no idea...) but I'm always on the watch for it. There was something about the storytelling and the characters that I just loved and I loved how it translated into the OVA. And having played the game and knowing all the spoilers for the major plot points, I could see where they hinted to certain pieces of information or relationships that were yet to be defined.
Also the omakes kill me.
2. Rurouni Kenshin
I need to watch more of this series. I saw a good chunk of it when it was on Cartoon Network, but I never specifically went out of my way to watch it. However I did like what I saw and I kept thinking that whenever it started over at the beginning I'd watch it properly...and then I never did. I'm fairly sure at least one of my friends has the whole thing on DVD and I could borrow that from them, but I just never got around to it. (Though I think it's up on Hulu...and I should just watch that on my own time.) As a history geek the series appealed to me, especially since I find the time period in which it's set to be one of the most fascinating in Japanese history. I know I had a greater appreciation for Inuyasha after taking east Asian history, and I have no doubt that I would have a greater appreciation for Kenshin as well.
3. Snow
I'm a snow baby. XD Like, it was snowing on the day I was born and I was born at the end of April. Heh.
Anyway, to me it's not winter if there's no snow. I don't particularly care of the cold unless there's snow on the ground. In which case I am stupidly fond of it, especially if I can go out and play in it. I think that's why I was so annoyed this past winter, because the only decent snowfall we got was when I was laid up with tendonitis and was stuck sitting on my couch. And while it was lovely to be able to sit and watch it fall, I really wanted to be out walking in it. However I am not stupid enough to try and navigate snow and ice on crutches.
4. Pike's Market in Seattle
I love this place. First of all, there's a lot of great little stalls. Flowers, food, odds and ends...but then there's just the energy of it. It's so vibrant and alive, even when most of it is shut down for the day. Also you can walk around in full cosplay and people don't even bat an eyelash. Well, the tourists will ask questions but the locals don't even care. Because cosplayers are some of the more normal people at Pike's Place. XD
Beyond the market, and on Pike Street proper you have a lot of great little eateries. There's this really cute little French bakery, a vegan bakery, the original Starbucks, a great little Russian place...the list sort of goes on. There are some higher end places, one of which I went to for my 22nd birthday for brunch, where I had french toast and a mimosa and then a slice of their famous coconut cream pie with a candle in it (because that restaurant is AWESOME). I think it was Etta's. Anyway, I'm a fan of the whole area, especially since it's so close to the waterfront and you can just sort of make a day of it.
5. If you were a tree, what tree would you be?
You know, probably something like a oak. Huge, unmoving, lots of branches for kids to climb on.
