That lovely post-con burn out will probably last a couple of days

As most of you know, I headed to Seattle on Thursday for Sakura-con, the largest anime convention in the Pacific Northwest. For me and my friends, it's a great excuse to buy copious amounts of shit we don't need but really want and wear costumes. And it's a super great excuse to wear costumes to places around Seattle other than the con.

I was super popular with the tourists on Saturday as my friends and I wandered around Pike's Place Market and the Piers. So much so that I kept getting stopped for photos and more or less had to wave at the tour buses because they were all taking photos of me from their seats. But more on that later.

sideshow_ericka and our other trip mate G picked me up on Thursday evening to drive to Seattle. We stopped in Yakima to get food, and then drove the rest of the trip with only one potty break near the summit of Snoqualime Pass where it was snowing with light fog. (Which meant all kinds of fun for E who was driving.) We listened to happy Disney music and talked about how excited we were for the con, G sitting in back just chilling out. We pulled into Seattle around eleven, mostly because during the worst parts of the pass we had to slow down to 55 or slower, and managed to work our way to the hotel (conveniently across the street from the convention center), getting there at about eleven-thirty. After hauling our luggage up, we changed into PJs and crashed, waking at just after seven-thirty.

Friday morning found us showering and getting ready for con. Krys cosplayed as Gran Mamare from Ponyo (photos to come later), which required at lot of fussing with a wig, a large white dress, and trying to arrange the Ponyo plush just right. I cosplayed as Sheena on day one, which also required fussing with a wig, but to a less extent as Krys. My costume, while having more pieces, was actually less work than Krys's dress, but only because I had previous experience getting in and out of it. I wasn't constantly stopped for photos, but I had several people who recognized me. Sadly, I couldn't hunt down a Zelos to get photos with (besides the two I saw weren't spectacular). After several hours of wandering around the con, we headed down to Pike's Place, which was closed down, before heading to Piers for Ivar's and a quick tour of the Ye Olde Curiosity Shop. We finally claimed exhaustion and went back to the hotel to watch Robot Chicken and take a load off. We finally passed out from exhaustion around ten-thirty.

We slept kind of late on Saturday, but thankfully getting Gran Mamare ready took less time as we already knew what we had to do. I cosplayed as my My Little Pony that day, which required fussing with the wig and getting the ears to sit still on my head. I confused a lot of people (though apparently I was cute enough to warrant photos), but once I told them what I was, I was praised for my originality. We decided to hit up the dealer's room, where I decided that I wanted to be fitted for a corset. I was cinched into an under-bust that made me look amazing (even over the My Little Pony costume), and in a moment of weakness handed over the credit card and spent $140 on it. (That I now owe my husband, because it's technically his card.) I spent the rest of the day in the costume, even when we walked down to Pike's Place (now all open) and the piers for lunch. I was super popular with the tourists on the Ducks (amphibious WWII-era buses that tour the streets and the sound), who always managed to whip out their cameras to snap photos of me standing on the street. It didn't take me long to play along - I'd smile and wave and pose for photos. I honestly didn't care - I don't live in Seattle and I'd rather just have fun than spend the entire time self-consciously wondering if people were judging me. To be honest, I fully expect to show up on Poorly Dressed here in the next few days - and again I just don't care. Saturday night found us going our separate ways, our roommates went to the Crab Pot with some of their other friends while E and I went out with my buddy Ryan to have dinner at the bar in a dinky little Japanese restaurant. And it was amazing.

Sunday we woke up and said, "Screw Cosplay!" and made one last run on the dealer's room to pick up last minute gifts. After that we checked out and hit the road, stopping in North Bend for lunch and gas, and then driving in the rain the entire way home. When I finally got home at just before five, I found my husband had cleaned the entire apartment and had Easter dinner going. It was quite nice to not have to do much beyond make the deviled eggs. As it was, I spent most of my time online yesterday trying to get caught up on email, Facebook and Twitter.

Today I need to start in on TCLBA stuff again, and at some point I'll probably end up watching Hetalia on Netflix. Also, hopefully, my body will stop being angry with me for eating junk for three days straight. I think today is an easy going kind of day.
