Today is the annual Diabetes Walk in my town. Every year they organize a fund raising walk along the river, inviting the community to participate. Naturally various businesses and organizations get involved (like Hanford SWAT, for example) to raise money to help fight the disease that's tied with Alzheimer's as the seventh leading cause of death in the US.
I told a friend that I would try and make it, because really, what else do I have going on (you know, aside from the football game in ten minutes)?
As you can probably imagine, I'm not actually doing the Diabetes Walk today because my blood sugar is in the toilet and standing for more than five minutes makes me feel ill. Walking something like three miles is obviously out of the question.
Low blood sugar is something I really try to avoid. I hate feeling so sick, so I live as a grazer - several small meals through out the day if I can swing it. I'm not diabetic - I have hypoglycemia which means that when my blood sugar gets too low I get sick. Dizziness, nausea, upset stomach, and so on. Really. Not pleasant.
Last night I wasn't hungry for dinner, and now it's coming back to bite me in the ass. I'm trying to get things evened out by sipping ginger ale and munching saltines. I'm also not moving around a lot, which is fine. I have football on and that's about three hours I won't be moving around.
And now, to be a vegetable on the couch all afternoon.
