Seriously, if you're ever bored, look up the "Better than it sounds" description for a laugh, even if you aren't intending on doing the meme.

IRL, my husband went fishing on Friday and is getting back sometime today. That left me to do the grocery shopping, cleaning and planting of flowers. Which was fine. Last night I hung out with sideshow_ericka and her housemate Krysti. We talked anime and cosplay (because even though I joined the Facebook group about how I like anime but I'm not a retard about it, I can act like a retard about it occasionally and not ALL THE FUCKING TIME) before settling down with the little bit and watching Sherlock Holmes. Which was played fantastically gay. X3

And now a bit more about the "I like anime but I'm not a retard about it."

I enjoy anime. I enjoy the artwork and the storytelling - and like the way characters are developed, or not. But quite a bit of me has grown up and so I don't act like a retarded weeaboo or wapanese all the time.

I enjoy it, and I'm passionate about my favorites, but I don't look at anime as the end all form of entertainment. I'm picky about what I watch (and what I read in manga form). This wasn't always true, but as I got older I found that I started watching my favorite series in a different way. (Example: travellyr and I had a long conversation a year ago about Gundam Wing and how intricate the plot was with all of the politics and human drama and ZOMG there's a message in here and the character development that didn't include "ZOMG BISHI.") While I might have been initially drawn to a series because "Oooh, shiny!" I have since moved on to enjoy them for their stories and the characters.

Last Exile comes to mind. I started watching it because I recognized a few of the voice actors. Then it was because it was shiny. And then I got so thoroughly engrossed in the plot I didn't care about the shiny. The story was EXCELLENT and I found that I appreciated it on a much deeper level.

When I re-watched all of Sailor Moon last summer, I found it was the same thing. Everything that I had taken for granted as an adolescent, I could appreciate as an adult. I could appreciate the intricacies of the storyline, the character development and interactions and so on. All of the shows that I have on DVD I find that I have a new found appreciation for because I've moved past the superficial.

That's why I like anime. Now, admittedly, I am a total dork-face about some things. I ♥ Tamaki from Ouran because he's such a dork. He makes me ridiculously happy. I do cosplay, but for me it's a form of creative expression. It's a challenge to see if I can make these costumes that I see in anime and video games because it's not like I can go to the store and buy a pattern for them. See? Sewing challenge!!

All in all, I enjoy anime. I like going to cons. But that doesn't mean that I'm a complete and total retard about it. Sure, I have fangirl moments, but for the most part those are private affairs, shared with friends only and not the rest of the freakin' world. Unless they're my friends here or on Facebook. (And in some cases, both.) And hell, even that random ass person who stumbles into journal for shits and giggles. Or because they knew me once upon a time and are checking up on me for God only knows why. But if you were to meet me at my place of work, I would pass as normal - or as normal as can be for being married to an engineer and working in an engineering firm.

And speaking of work - tomorrow may or may not be my last day. The person I've been filling in for is talking to her doctor tomorrow to see if she has permission to return to work. If so, she'll be back Tuesday, if no, I'll be filling in for the rest of the week at the very least, and maybe into next week as well. I'm being taken to lunch by a couple of coworkers to say thanks for filling in on such short notice tomorrow regardless of the outcome. Which leaves me to wonder, "Where do I want to go to eat?" I've been told that we can go anywhere I want...
