The dogs have been rescued!
I know they are dogs and not people, but it is not a little thing to watch over the truly helpless among us. Compassion is not a zero sum game.
A man who owns a pet food company in Japan went out and got the dogs yesterday. The white one is at the vets and his/her faithful companion is waiting at the shelter...hopefully their owners survived.

I found this very interesting blog from a guy based out on Midway. It doesn't take much to disturb the peace when you're only inches above sea level. He has some photos of albatross and chicks that they rescued after the tsunami hit late at night. They dug the birds out of the debris and sand and even went out to sea to pick up water-logged victims. Amazing stuff.
