Ack! I suck at updating. I had planned to write last Thursday, when the news came, but the days came and went, and, well, no update.
I was gonna study pedagogy this year to be certified as a teacher. However, I've been loathing the idea since I started studying, knowing it had to come sooner or later. The master program in literacy studies I had planned to do starts up every second year, and of course, since I took a year of sociology instead of just getting my BA, next time is in 2010. So, pedagogy it is!
But! I surfed around the uni's web site and came across the list of all the available places (which is updated frequently as it's right before school starts and people are accepted elsewhere and offers their place up, etc, etc) and noticed that there was at least one available spot in the master program for art- and cultural studies. No, I don't have a BA in art history or any other "relevant" background from that faculty, but the guidelines said that students with "relevant background from the humanities with a major in a suitable field" culd apply. Could that be me? A BA majoring in both Nordic (sociolinguistics - female derogatory terms) and English (literacy studies - blogging, identity and friendship)? I quickly printed out an application form, drove to my mom to pick up all my papers (grades and such) and then to the university. Dropped the application off, didn't have to make them copy my stuff since I have my BA (d'0h!) and all my courses are from the same place (them).
The same day, I could see my application online - as undergoing processing. I continued to check every day, at least three times a day. One week later, Thursday, the answer came. I logged on just to check before heading out for a crop, and there it was. I was accepted! Did I want the spot? Click "accept". Clicky! E-mail arrived: The status of your application has been changed. You have accepted the place in the master program for art- and cultural studies.
Whee!
Have to do a methodology course before the semester starts, since I don't have any in my BA (weird, huh? I do, however, have both qualitative and quantitative from sociology, but it was recommended students take it anyway, and I'm not sure if my sociology grades have been considered, although I think the year helped me land the spot). Only problem now is that there is no info online about this other than "take the course", and I haven't received anything in the mail, just a letter of acceptance and the "welcome to UiS" catalog I already got :P
Another cool thing is that when I was accepted, the available spot was removed from the web site - seems I got the last place!
Oh, and did I mention that I have lost 3.3lbs in just a week and a half? (and without cutting down on the good stuff, like the almondy cake we had this weekend, the m&m's I had while scrapbooking, etc - have tried to cut down on rice and other carbohydrates, but not to the extreme, just smaller servings)
