It worried me that I was spending so little time writing for my thesis. It also worried me that I was spending so little time reading for my English classes. Then it occurred to me that I'm studying Latin on a not-quite-daily basis, and I'm reading for my thesis like it's nobody's business. I've been buying and consuming books like it's my job. In fact, it is my job. I love being a student.
I'm tired a lot of the time. I think this is partly because I'm not really excercising or leaving my room much anymore. I think this should change. In fact, it is changing. Today, I went to kayaking. I was proud of myself. Although, now I need to take a shower and get the last of the chlorine out of my hair. On the other hand, the MUCK hoodies came in. I'm happy about that, immensely so.
I'm planning on texting Ted later. We haven't gone to Tesco together in... a long time. I don't even know how long. I miss it. Also, I'll be attending the GLBT coffee-meeting tomorrow. I promised someone I would meet him there, and Seamus is going to knock on my window before he goes to his lecture. If I'm not awake, I will slightly loathe myself. Additionally, I need to make it to my lecture tomorrow morning. I keep sleeping through it. whoops.
Tomorrow, Melissa is coming to Maynooth. I'm planning on taking her around the south campus. I haven't shown it to her yet, and I think it will make a relaxing walk. I want to invite Andie, 'cause I think they will get along famously. We shall see.
As always during this time of year, I've developed a new tool for procrastination. This year, it's youtube.com. It's a board where people post up video clips. I watch things like the World's 2nd Largest Tetris Game and clips from Father Ted and music videos by bands that I like. It is... beautiful, but not conducive to studying. Oh well.
I returned a book to the library today. It was supposed to be returned on the 31st of March. The late fine is €10. That is ridiculous. On the other hand, the fact that I had it out so long (I had already renewed it) is equally ridiculous. What can I say, it was all in the name of my thesis. ... I should have just bought the book myself. :P
One book I did buy was Self-Made Man by Norah Vincent. It was interesting, though not what I had expected. I'm posting about it in my myspace blog. (myspace.com/legens_per_noctes) I've decided to use that blog as a sort of space for reviews. They're not really reviews, more just my thoughts on the art. I've talked about one song and two films so far, and I'm working on this book. Comments are always welcome.
Final note: I am constantly surprised by the lyrics that can be hidden behind a lack of ennunciation.
Rebellion (Lies)
by The Arcade Fire
Sleeping is giving in,
no matter what the time is.
Sleeping is giving in,
so lift those heavy eyelids.
People say that you’ll die
faster than without water.
But we know it’s just a lie,
scare your son, scare your daughter.
People say that your dreams
are the only things that save ya.
Come on baby in our dreams,
we can live our misbehavior.
Every time you close your eyes
Lies, Lies!
People try and hide the night
underneath the covers.
People try and hide the light
underneath the covers.
Come on hide your lovers
underneath the covers,
come on hide your lovers
underneath the covers.
Hidin’ from your brothers
underneath the covers,
come on hide your lovers
underneath the covers.
People say that you’ll die
faster than without water,
but we know it’s just a lie,
scare your son, scare your daughter,
Scare your son, scare your daughter.
Now here’s the sun, it’s alright! (Lies!)
Now here’s the moon, it’s alright! (Lies!)
Now here’s the sun, it’s alright! (Lies!)
Now here’s the moon it’s alright (Lies!)
But every time you close your eyes. (Lies!)
