A mini-update before I head off to Killarney for the weekend. Yep. Forgetful me neglected to remember that ze would be heading to the other side of the country today. Right. Way to go.
So this month has become very plan-y. I keep planning ahead for the things that have to get done in the future. Things like, I emailed professors at Coe, making sure I could complete my majors on time. And I'm thinking about how I'll have to structure the summer and next year in order to finish everything on time, and how I'll have to go about structuring them. I suppose I feel vaguely not-in-place, simply because I'm spending so much time focusing on times that aren't now.
On the other hand, I've become much more social this semester. I'm actually hanging out with people on a regular basis. Or rather, I go out / hang out on a regular basis, but not always with the same people. I'm happy about this. Although, I think I'll have to rebudget and maybe take a few tap-waters (free) with my beers (not free) from now on. I haven't been drinking very much any one night, but I've been getting one or two pints nearly every night. That adds up, no? But it's been going well, and I like that I'm actually doing this whole social thing.
So... yeah. This was a relatively useless post. Something exciting that actually makes the post semi-worthwhile: I went kayaking again on Wednesday. We're in the pool now, which has finally been reopened. (They had to remodel it; it was old and falling apart a little.) So I was able to do things that involve going underwater without a) worrying about isotopes that may or may not be stable, and b) worrying about freezing my ass off even with the wetsuit. The pool water is downright balmy.
I learned two things of which I am exceedingly proud. I learned how to flip my boat upside-down on purpose and then signal to others that I've flipped, at which point someone brings a boat over to me and I use it to pull myself upright again. Mainly, I learned this because drowning is not a top priority on my list of things to do in Ireland. More importantly, though, I learned it because I wanted to learn the next thing. With the help of Erin and Paraic, I learned how to roll my boat on my own. It basically involves a paddle-stroke, a twisting of the body, and a flick of the hips. I am good at stroking, at twisting, and at flicking my hips. I am very good at them. Until Wednesday, this had only been a quiet suspicion of mine. But upon learning to roll my boat myself, I realised that my suspicions were accurate. whoot. whoot indeed.
