Alejandro

It's been a while since I've written in this, hasn't it?

It's interesting how polarized people have become in message forums over the video Alejandro which I guess would make sense considering the content. The interesting thing is, when I was reading comments on Yahoo's message forum it amazed me how many people didn't like Gaga's video because it was copying and because it had obvious Nazi references. The men in the video are wearing Nazi uniforms and the first word after Gaga in stark large white letters is Klein, an obvious German name.

Now, to be quite honest, I don't necessarily think the video is original nor do I necessarily think that Gaga herself is making original music, but I would argue against the fact that she has no talent. The woman can sing and she can play instruments quite well so yes, she does have talent, a lot more than a lot of the artists out there who hire others to write their own music. In fact, arguably if the wiki page about her is correct and she did in fact compose her own music at 13 and learned how to play piano as early as 4 years of age she more than likely had a great deal of talent.

I think it's amusing that people decry her as having no talent when she does as, I sincerely doubt she would of been accepted into the Tisch School of the Arts otherwise if she didn't. There seem to be quite a few people against her because she's not original, but at the same time, neither is anyone else.

Pretty much everything has been done, so her taking styles from other artists isn't necessarily a new phenomenon as there are a great deal of artists who have done it before her.
Yes, there are things in the video, the nun outfit, the broken star of david, the cone gun bra, etc..etc.. that allude to Madonna, but it may very well have been coincidence that they happened to use the same iconography and or theme. If she did in fact reference Madonna, it certainly wouldn't be the first time that a singer has used obvious Madonna references in their videos. Madonna is an icon and with icon status there will be people who copy and or imitate her.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all and even then I sincerely doubt Madonna minds if the reports of her and Gaga being friends are correct.

From an artistic standpoint I actually think the video was quite well done if a bit confusing. The stark black/ white coupled with the rather intense red that she used created for fantastic imagery even if one did not necessarily agree with the video itself. In regards to the video being about homosexuality. Gaga is a person and people have views. I don't know if she is bi-sexual nor do I honestly care as a person's celebrity is none of my business in the first place, but getting upset over a video makes no sense nor is condemning that video as being the method of distribution of some single-minded women who is hell bent on destroying the world with her sins when she quite obviously is not.

Yes, one may not necessarily agree with Gaga, but at the same time she is allowed to voice her right to free speech whether one likes it or not. Furthermore, it amuses me that so many people take offense to the usage of religious imagery in the video. Religious imagery is a strong powerful statement and easily recognizable by the majority and she certainly isn't the first to use nor will she be the last. The fact is, she may very well be a strong Catholic, but that doesn't necessarily mean she can't question her own religion. One should never follow any religion blindly, after all so the fact that people are questioning the fact that she dared question her own religion doesn't make much sense to me.

In conclusion and strangely feel like I'm writing a paper, Gaga is free to voice her own opinions wherever she wishes regardless of whether the majority agrees with them or not.
