That Special Connection

My mother and I are very alike. We speak every day on the phone; we can never quite work out whether we do it for her sake or my sake. I think we've settled on it being for both of our sakes. I look after her and she tells me things she tells no one else - she looks after me and I tell her things I can't tell anyone else. We have our rows, and when we have them they are blazing and furious and can be heard all the way around the block. But we always make up quickly because we can't stay that angry at each other for that long. She has always accepted me for who I am and has never tried to make me anything different.

She has always been proud of me as I am.

Recently, I asked my parents to dig through all our old photo albums and email me some scans of me and my mother together. I'm putting together a Mother's Day present (it will be late, but I want to give it to her in person) and so I wanted as many pictures us, stretching as far back as they could find. They've unearthed some true gems. But there was one that really stood out for me. And that's why I'm posting it here now - it deserves to be shared and it truly does speak volumes.

I have such a special connection with my mother. I treasure it because it is such a rare thing. And this photo, from the mid-nineties, really does sum everything up in one image, captured forever.
