Summary: Numbers make sense. People don't.
Techno-Babble
Toshiko loved numbers.
They were convoluted yet simple. They wove themselves together intricately, creating beautiful patterns and handing over their secrets.
People were more complicated.
They withheld themselves, never saying what they meant, always underscoring each word with a contradictory meaning. Toshiko just couldn’t speak the language.
But, sometimes, that didn’t matter.
She didn’t know why Ianto had bought her a drink. She didn’t understand why Owen had joined them. She couldn’t see why, of all people, they cared about her.
And yet here they were: talking, laughing, a shared experience. Toshiko felt loved.
The numbers couldn’t give her that.
