Safe Danger
Toshiko watched as the fireball accelerated into darkness, igniting the Cardiff sky briefly before disappearing in a haze of multi-coloured splinters.
As a child, the wonder of fireworks had enchanted her, astounding her with a sense of more. When she moved to England they comforted her, providing familiar excitement in an alien world.
Now grown, Tosh saw many things. The enthralling wonder of Torchwood was addictive. That slight terror tinging each unpredictable day gave her life new meaning.
Likewise, the kaleidoscope of smoke illuminating the sky hinted at a beautiful danger.
But it was also safe.
Sometimes, she needed that.
