I LOVE THE BASS!

I used to play an acoustic in high school and managed to borrow a 3/4 for minimal play in college. I still have my electric, but unfortunately I haven't had much time to play as I used to.

Check out Jonathon Maron for some good bass playing. He's the bassist for Groove Collective.

Cool, I want to start playing bass but I haven't even picked up the guitar I have. Thanks for the tip, it's always good to find more good music.

My sis plays guitar, kinda sorta. :) Too many strings for my liking, but I still do like the sound.

Yeah, let me know what you think of Groove Collective and Jonathon. They play in Philly a lot and are a pretty cool bunch of guys!

There are a lot of musicians in my family. My uncle got me started. He started out buy trying to imitate Hendrix and then he taught himself bass. He let me play this kickass 5 string bass he has once.

Ok, enough of my life story. Where can I find some Groove Collective music? If it's not mainstream I have to be pointed in the right direction.

:)

Groove Collective, you are right, is not a mainstream band. However, you can find tehm at any mainstream record store. Maybe under the jazz section...if not there just ask someone in the store. If possible try to pick up We The People. It's their 2nd album and kinda showcases them in their heyday.....they are still around albiet minus a few members here and there. Another good on is Declassified, but I'd go with WTP first.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

It's all about diversity!

Don't get me wrong, I have PLENTY of mainstream guilty pleasures that I have or like to listen to. Pop is just sometimes to damn catchy! Even my husband, Mr. Avant Guarde, has succumbed to the Pop Sirens every now and again.

Let me know if you like them...I have a number of other kinda of jazzy artists you might be interested in.

I looked them up online, heard some clips from their music on amazon.com. Sounds pretty good. I can get into catchy mainstream stuff, it's the bubble gum stuff that bugs me (i.e. Britney, etc). I've just been getting in to hearing real, good musicians. I guess I kinda fall in and out of it every now and then. I used to be into the old classical music and such. I'm just really eclectic, it all depends on my mood.

Here are some others. sclark January 16 2004, 08:28:42 UTC
If you are looking for something interesting, check out Magatune. They have an interesting selection or artists and you can listen to the entire album online. I haven't listened to many, but I am in love with the Brook Stret Band. They are a Baroque ensemble. I think it's really good stuff.

Back to jazz, one of my favorite bands is Incognito. Try 100 Degrees and Rising or Beneath the Surface. They are amazing! Saw them in concert at the Keswick Theater a few years back and it was AMAZING! And since I am a collector of autographs, I had to get those as well. :)

Another good group is The Band New Heavies. Check out Brother Sister or ShelterI'm sure you have heard of Incognito or the Heavies. They have been around for a long time now, but have not gotten much radio plany. Very unfortunate ( ... )

Thanks for the groups. Don't feel bad about the Britney thing, I considered buying Justified. In fact I still am thinking about it. Before all of this I wasn't really into jazz like that, now I like listening to music and hearing the instruments playing. Crap, I gotta clock back in. Thanks for the music links though, i'll check them out and i'll try to be ready for that quiz. LOL.
