Has this ever happened to you:
- I needed a little celery for a soup recipe. At the store: oh, I can only buy a whole lot of celery? Okay, I guess. I buy the celery, use like, one stalk, and put the rest in the fridge.
- The celery weighs on my mind. I never eat celery, but I don't want it to go to waste. What am I going to do with all this celery?
- I find a recipe for a celery salad that sounds pretty good. The recipe calls for some plain yogurt. Okay, no problem, I'll just go the store...which is how I end up with a quart (minus a couple of spoonfuls) of plain, nonfat yogurt in my fridge, with an even slimmer chance than the celery of actually being eaten by itself.
- Now I think: what can I do with all this yogurt? Hey, I bought some cucumbers from the greenmarket, I bet I can make some tzatziki! Mmmm, tzatziki.
- To make tzatziki, I need some dill, so I stop by the market again, where I buy a massive bunch of dill for a pittance. We're talking more dill than I could use in my life, unless I decided to open up a pickling factory. What am I going to do with all this dill?
...and so on, and so on.
Other things on my to-make list:
- tomato and peach salsa (why yes, I have some tomatoes and peaches to use up, why do you ask?)
Things NOT on my to-make list:
- ANY ACTUAL MAIN DISHES, APPARENTLY??
