seven deadly sins meme: pride
Another day, another update! This meme is stolen from crackedwraith; it seems suuuuuper interesting, and a lot of it could be pretty good for me to do.
Example: Day one is pride! I don't know about y'all, but I float around most days in a weird bipolar limbo between monumental arrogance and crippling crises of self-esteem. So let's see what I think is cool about me. :O
In honor of the meme, what are YOU proud of today? Pick a thing!
1. I can bake (and cook)! This surprised no one more than me. Except possibly my relatives. My favorite, favorite things I can make are tortillas, CHILI CON CARNE, and tollhouse cookie pie. Honorable mention to my mint chocolate chip cheesecake. :DDDD Next step: cook moar!
2. I am a good dancer. Especially as a social dancer! To be fair, my jazz/ballet/hip-hop is pretty mediocre, but I bet I could get good at it if I took some classes! I love dancing sooooo much, and at this point (three years in?) I'm getting pretty excellent. I think only a few of you have seen me dance, but, yeah!
3. I r smrt. Brains! I has them. I am a lot smarter than your average bear, if the amount of time I spend during my homework yelling at the text is any indication.
4. I am a good writer. What? How did this get on here? SHOCK. Actually, I told nextian a hilarious story about my insane poetic arrogance. (The punch line was: me explaining to a visiting poet that I had never told Mattmatt I wrote poetry because "from the beginning I have been consistently really embarrassed for him by how much better I am.")
HERE'S THE THING: I do not think I am a better writer or poet even than a lot of people on the flist! Our styles are so different and so much of what you people do is so gorgeous and/or witty and/or incisive that it delights me all the time. And I never feel better than famous published poets like Sylvia Plath and Theodore Roethke and Adrienne Rich because ... their stuff is just perfect. And mine is not.
Hoooooowever. Out here in RL Land, I feel superior to other people like all the time. I feel like someone attempting to teach me something might have to physically smack me.
"YOU! Poet girl! You call that scansion??? Drop and give me fifty!"
5. I try really hard to do the right thing. All the time. Every day. 24/7. Blame a Catholic upbringing. But I do think it's one of the better things about me. A-Bomb and I took a D&D Alignment Test last night on OK Cupid and I got Neutral Good and was like :DDDDDD.
6. I am good at picking out clothes. Whether it's saving up for months for a dress, picking out gems in thrift stores, altering vintage pieces, or sewing/making my own stuff, I have a big interest in personalizing my wardrobe. I tend to think of fashion as, alternately, a work of art or an expression of mood.
7. I'm pretty? YES OKAY, despite my well documented self esteem issues, I do take pride in my appearance. I'm strong enough and have enough endurance to run and dance for long periods of time, and to hold myself up when I need to, and to control my speed and movement (though not as well as I'd like). I have soft skin and shiny nice hair! My eyebrows are awesome. Also, crazy defined cheekbones. And after this last weekend, I've learned that I can rock the side ponytail.
