Now there are a great many things that I have been thinking about recently, but I'm going to bypass those thoughts for a moment so that I can post something I find amusing.
Recently I ordered another set of goggles (yes, I know I'm a science geek ... but I don't care ;-)) so I went down to the mailroom to check if they came in today. I received a package slip so I was happy that I wouldn't have to wait til Monday to find some time to go down there again to pick them up. However, the package I received was not the goggles, but a package from Merck.
Immediately I was thinking "Wtf?" because I certainly didn't expect anything from them.
As I was leaving the mailroom I couldn't help but open the package and found a note and a box. My curiousity piqued even further (if that was possible), I read the note.
They were congratulating me on the research that I had conducted and had funded by them in the Summer of 2006. They also sent a box which contained 1GB flash drive with their compliments (which I have every intention on using for research data). Now this is very sweet, but I found it highly amusing that I have been funded by Merck on both of the research projects that I have done at Drew, neither of which took place in Summer '06. I was a Merck Fellow in Summer '05 and presented my research in Rahway late that summer, however the other project was my senior research and was funded by a Merck/AAAS Undergraduate Science Research Program grant. This was the grant and achievement that they were recognizing in the letter.
It seems that they thought I did this research in the summer after my junior year... What makes this even more amusing to me is that I did my senior research in the spring of my junior year and the fall of my senior year. So I guess they got the year correct, just not the right term. ;-)
