As for a thesis, maybe you could do one on the United States' policy of isolationism during the interwar years. Just a random suggestion.

American studies ;) but most of my teachers work in the history department :p you are a student as well, right? What are you majoring in?

So American Studies is different from History?

I am a student in university. I'm currently majoring in history and minoring in creative writing. :)

It does have a lot in common with history, but it is also about american society and culture. Also, I'm not american so it also focuses on american relations with my country (and other countries). I wish I could have done creative writing as well! I'm just making this up as I go...

Ah, so it looks at other aspects of the United States. If it's not too rude to ask, what is your home country? I'm from Canada myself. :)

I was considering a major in creative writing, but a major would have required me to take more disciplines besides fiction, which is the only thing I want to write. I'm pretty much winging my education and hoping for it all to work out.

Oooh we might be distant cousins :p And yes, the Netherlands is pretty liberal, we were also the first country to legalize gay marriage :) However, lately things are getting a bit more grim, like everywhere in the world, I suppose.

I've been to Canada twice, it is so beautiful there! And the people are really nice too :)
