I am the best friend you lost.
I am the straight-A student the cool kids laughed at.
I am the impious believer who drank a little too much cider.
I am the unfaithful girlfriend who came home with a lovebite on the neck.
I am the role-model sister with punctured flesh and skin.
I am the garage band princess who plays the wrong notes.
I am the opportunistic scholar who cried crocodile tears.
I am the travelling companion you scolded at because I cannot read maps.
I am the trustworthy daughter with a torn hymen.
I am the listening ear which gives futile advice.
I am the life of your one-man party.
I am the pseudo-philosopher who retracts his words.
I am the amorous lover who falls asleep midway intercourse.
I am the disorientated bride who didn't turn up at the altar.
I am the girl you touched in bed at night when you thought nobody else was looking.
I am everything and yet I am nothing.
One of my favourite writers once wrote:
"Why did I love her so much? Because it never ended. It never began."
The simplest words truly strike the deepest chords. Dissimilar meanings, but still a meaning nonetheless.
