So I'm back.
Sorry for not commenting much on your journals. =[
But I'm back from Hamburg. It was really fun. I got to go to Berlin and go to school in Hamburg and everything!
OMG, all people eat there is bread and seltzer water. For breakfast, we eat toast or bread/rolls with cold cuts. For lunch, we eat a sandwich. For dinner, bread again. I began skipping dinner in Germany because I couldn't take bread anymore. It was bad enough that all I could eat is bread but I couldn't even get normal water. My throat was hurting so badly [I lost my voice for about 5 days] and all I wanted was something that didn't fizz in my throat but to get it I had to drink tap water.
The tap water in Hamburg was hard. So it killed my hair and throat.
Also, when I got there, I HAVE NEVER SEEN SO MANY WHITE PEOPLE IN THE SAME AREA IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!! Me and my friend Katie were the only Asians there. If you count her as being Asian since she's half. Out of the people that I saw in the whole of Hamburg city, I only saw about 10 black people. Lots of Turkish people though. Everyone was white, blonde and blue-eyed. If you weren't blonde, you were light brown and that was the end of it.
Some differences that I've noticed:
Food = we don't have much bread. They eat so healthy no wonder skinny jeans is really fashionable there. They have no fat people.
School = they end school at 1300 and get this, they start at 800. Everyone cycles to school and instead of parking lots, they have like about 50 bike racks.
Transportation = Really similar, cept they're cleaner by a lot, and they don't check tickets that much, but if you happen to be checked and not have a ticket, you get fined the maximum fine [80 euros = 120 bucks]. So it was always good to get a ticket. I've only been checked once out of all my time here.
Ages = the drinking age is 16. You can start buying 'beer' at 16 but to buy hard liquor you have to 18.
Smoking = There were SO MANY cigarette ads there. I was really surprised to find a whole wall covered in one Marabou cigarette ad. You can't find this in Canada. America sometimes but always in Hamburg. I was so annoyed. I hate cig ads. Even though I do smoke, its annoying to find them right in your face. Its like corrupting lil kids who don't really want to die sooner than they want.
H&M = Their h and m is amazing!! so much better than the american ones. better quality and more variety. its like europes hot topic, h and m, and forever 21 in one, and better. Apparently jewelery [sp?] in the store is called Schmuck. So I bought a schmuck for 1.6 euros. that cracks me up.
Cosmetics = okay, you know how a simple drugstore [loreal] mascara costs about 7 bucks here? it friggin' costs 10 euros there! Its a difference of 8 dollars! Holy shit. I'm happy that I live in America. And this is pretty much the only reason why I like living in the US. For the cosmetics.
weather = the weather's crap there
I also met lots of cute guys. I met Christian, a 14 year old who's like 6ft. And who's also amazing at the violin. If I were 3 years younger, I would totally have a crush on him.
And now since I'm back, I'm sad that I live so far away from good life quality in Hamburg. Everything's like better there [cept for cosmetics].
And omg, Hamburgers love Hey There Deliah song. So overplayed.
I'll update more about Germany once I start remembering more.
Ciao!
