October 17
When I opened my mouth to sing.

“…but when I opened my mouth to sing, water came flowing out of it and I started choking. That’s when I woke up.”

Raelene tried to swallow a chortle and failed. Her friend frowned at her.

“You're the one who asked her to tell us about her dream,” Juris reminded Raelene. “She didn't want to, but you insisted.”

“I know, I know,” Raelene said, breathing carefully to avoid anymore accidental laughter. To Lilya, she added, “I just find the commentary on your singing so…poignant.”

Lilya sighed. “Yes, I get it…my singing is terrible. It’s not like I ever claimed otherwise.”

“Ahh, but who needs a great voice when you have the agility and grace we have?” the younger student mused as she glided down the path ahead of the other two.

Lilya glanced at Juris, who winked at her. Later, she would probably complain to Raelene about her choice to make Lilya recount her dream in front of Juris. Raelene would then probably point out that the man was trying to get to know her, and what better way than to hear how her brain works while she's asleep.

“Rae has very little sense of embarrassment or shame,” Lilya informed Juris.

“Embarrassment is a waste of time!” Raelene announced as she danced back toward the two she'd left behind. “And what do you possibly have to be ashamed of? So you can't sing. Dance with me, and your watery mouth will be forgotten!” She hooked her friend's elbow and gave her no chance to resist as she dragged her away. Soon Lilya had given in to the pull of the taller girl and tried to trail behind as gracefully as possible.

Juris couldn't help but laugh. He knew Lilya was still uncomfortable around him, though considerably less than when they'd first met. When Raelene was around, though, she was much more relaxed, and he was allowed to see a side of her that he otherwise wouldn't.
