So that
clearless won't kill me, here's the mass of pictures I promised. Granted, the Kamina pictures have been edited a little by
pyrokitty, but she basically just pulled my pants up in a couple shots cause the belt I had was kinda loosely tied. So these are a fairly accurate representation of the Kamina costume. And FYI? I need to read these contest pages over more carefully. I didn't realize the deadline for the Kamina cosplay contest was 11:59pm EST. Ooops. I ended up being 20 mins too late to enter. But I'm not upset over it; I've still got some nice pictures and we got to learn what it'll be like to gear me up at the con.
Also, if anyone has any experience working with Ben Nye theatrical paints, I've got the Neutral Set powder stuff and I'm not sure how to use it. So I'd appreciate any info, if anyone has any. I'm otherwise gonna post about it on cosplay.com; they're the people that suggested that paint for this kinda thing anyway. So without further procrastination, here are the images I promised.
I'll admit that I'm probably not the most photogenic Kamina evar, but I'm still pretty happy with how this one came out. Though I think if I could go back and change something about this image, I'd re-angle it so it was more like the shot when Kamina first slings the elder's sword over his shoulder.
I'm pretty sure my terrible farmer's tan is obvious in this shot. I mean, look at my arm/face and compare that to my chest. I'll need to try fixing that before the con. Also, I know the glasses are missing in these pictures, but it's mostly because I forgot to make them. So I'm gonna be working on fixing that as well.
This was the front shot that was supposed to show off the tattoos from the front. Callie did these by hand with a paint brush and I think the result was pretty good. She has asked that I try and fix my airbrush so she can try using that for the application at the con, thinking that it'll look better that way. So I'm probably gonna be trying to monkey with the thing over the weekend.
And in this back shot, you can see how the paint is wearing on my shoulder. So we've gotta figure out how to use the setting powder, cause otherwise this is not gonna work that well at the con. Ya gotta admit that the flame pattern there is pretty sweet.
And it wouldn't be a costume exhibition if I didn't include a shot of this bloody cape. A year later and I'm still exceptionally pleased with it. Callie thinks I should try burning the edges a little and while I think that's not a bad idea, I'm kind of afraid that the whole cape is gonna catch fire.
Moving along to other costumes, this is the prototype to
thechanchan's Chie costume. The jacket's pretty minimalist compared to the finished version -it was pretty much there to give us an idea of how everything came together and then to serve as a marking guide for the finished version. The skirt was made just so we could make sure it was the right size.
This is the nearly-complete version of the Chie costume. It still need the black bike shorts for under the skirt and the zipper for the front. I'll be picking the zipper up at work today and then I should be able to finish this one off.
This is the nearly complete version of my Yasogami High jacket for Seta. It's currently missing the buttons and embroidery stitching. The buttons are among the materials I'll be picking up from work tomorrow and the stitching is something that's going to be done with fabric paint, as
auntieden pointed out when she did her P4 costume, that at most distances, people aren't going to notice the difference and the headache saved will be worth it.
And so that's about it for now. I'm actually pretty tired now, so I'm gonna throw this up and then sleep. Gotta be up in four or so hours.
