Finally I have gotten the cheque for the interest on my rent deposit. The guy I dealt with almost didn't give it to me though, when I told him I had not yet returned the keys to my apartment. He turned around and walked over to a woman at a desk (presumably the woman who authorized the cheque but I have no way of knowing for sure) and mumbled something and I heard her say "well we have to respect that". He came back to me and handed me the cheque and said "normally we don't issue these until we've gotten the keys back but I'll give it to you anyways". I so wanted to correct him on that point and inform him that actually cheques such as these are due to all tenants on a yearly basis regardless of whether they have reliquished their keys or not (a fact that I would imagine he is aware of). But I thought better of it as I have at least gotten what I wanted. The nerve of some people.
So once again I would like to say.....
I strongly recommend that if you are looking for an apartment in Ottawa that you try to avoid renting from the Saickleys. While their prices are good, its a trade off. I had 2 bug problems in that apartment and just experienced a clear indication that they do not always adhere to the regulations of the Tenant Protection Act.
