"We figured, fuck it, I mean, it was really far!"
-Idle Hands
Hokay, so...
Last time I posted (almost two months ago, but whaddya going to do about it?) I'd just returned my Striker to CPL. At the time, the guy I spoke to said the turnaround time was 2-3 weeks. Having heard nothing back, yesterday I decided to email them and see what was going on.
Turns out they'd already sent out a replacement board, which was ready to pick up whenever I wanted. I was excited... for all of 10 mins. After the rush faded, it was replaced by a severe case of "now what?"
Right now, I don't have the heart to touch wanderman. It's been running stable, and considering the computer-related dramas I had around the time I put it together, having something running is just too good to pass up.
However. It's been suggested by a number of people that I test this board to make sure it actually works. That's a good idea, but again, it involves a non-trivial amount of effort. I don't have the spare parts (in particular, no spare socket 775 CPU) at the moment, and if I'm just going to test it and throw it (gently) in the cupboard after that, there's no real point buying anything.
One attractive option is sticking it up on eBay.
Last time, I was thinking about building another computer around it. The amount of money involved in doing that is scary. And, hell, what would I do with another gaming PC? I enjoyed putting my computers together, but previously they all slotted into this "grand plan" of mine. I don't know where any new computer would fit into my plans (or my room!), and even if I worked that out, what would I do with wanderman?
Feel free to ignore this post.

Whoever thought interactive fiction could be so addictive?
