"That was a crazy game of poker..."
-O.A.R. (Of A Revolution), That Was a Crazy Game of Poker
It's been a while. Worked lots, did some study. Planning a summer of playing games, getting fit and earning money.
I did okay at my exam today. Not great, but okay. Getting this proof out was nice, especially when I saw how to make it really easy.
After that I went to uni to sit with
ephant for a bit before she went to her exam. Then I went upstairs.
meebo seems to be a decent web messenger, since I was on a mac in the Student Computing Centre, and I could only find AIM and Yahoo!.
There's a Japanese crepe place in Melbourne central which looks really good, so I decided to road test it. I didn't have breakfast or lunch, and I didn't want to spoil dinner, so a strawberry crepe with ice cream and custard it was. Next time, I'll just grab a smoothie. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly good either. Maybe I'm not giving it enough credit; after all, there are franchises all over the world, but the crepe didn't really do it for me. At least don't get the custard. The way they do it, you tend to get to the custard when you've pretty much eaten all of the other toppings, so all you're left is cold crepe and custard.
Tonight at poker I decided to break the rules and sit at the same table as
garrulus so I could watch his insane mising. He went out early, with no rebuy chance, so I guess he got to watch my insane mising. I've gone for ages without seeing two face cards in the same hand, and the first time I got it this time, I was mised out. (K J on the big blind into a rubbish flop for me, but good for other people. At least I decided not to raise.) All the way down to 600 chips, and I couldn't remember the last time I went all in and won.
All in on A 6. Triple up. All in on KK stole some blinds, which was nice, but that didn't get the
garrulus Seal of Approval™. That was nice. I took a huge stack of chips of Chris (formerly known as GoML), and apparently now I owe him a beer. And a lot of chips. That was also nice. Knocked a couple of other guys out with small stacks.
The table gets broken and I get moved to a new table where the stacks are a lot scarier. On my first small blind, everyone folds to me, and I look at 7 2 off suit. Fold. Hm. I take a couple of small-ish pots. Fold, fold, fold until someone goes all in for 7k. QQ seems good, so I call immediately. Two more guys go all in. They've all got aces, kings and jacks. Seems good. Q on the flop. Seems better. Final table time, and I'm probably chip leader, with 29.5k.
There's a guy on the final table with a similar chip stack to mine. He got a rebuy at the 500/1000 blind stage, for 1000. He sits down with around 25k. Not bad. Some friendly banter, and maybe a mise or two and it's down to three. The third guy has 2500 left, which sucks for him, since the blinds are now 2k/4k. I'm small blind with K 7 suited so calling seems a good deal. Flop is spam, turn is a 7. I bet, which apparently really annoys the other big stack. Apparently I should not bet so we have more chance of knocking out the other guy. That's one thing, but my thinking was that the other guy wouldn't last anyway, he still has a crap stack even if he wins. On the other hand, if I win, I get a decent head start in heads up. Big stack folds, I win with the lucky sevens.
Heads up. I'm glad I got that practice in with
chifley. I win a few pots, but then the cards go cold. I lose a few hands, and the cards get worse, so I start folding. I end up all the way back at 20k-ish, with 5k/10k blinds. All in on T 7 holds up, which is nice. A bit more back and forth, and I'm back up to a decent stack. I get K J and go all in. He calls with Q J and gets pwned. A chip count reveals he was actually leading me... by 500 chips. For some reason, they didn't remove the 500s when we were chipped up at the final table. He actually wins the next hand with 4 cards to a flush on the table, but that still only leaves him with 10% of a bet. My spam beats his spam on the next hand and that's it.
Phew. I guess I can afford to shout Chris a drink next time. And that medal thingy would be nice to keep on top of my cards. I need to go next week to collect it. Woe is me. (Ha, ha.)
Thought for the day:
Mise well. Mise when it counts.
