pawn shop and Alcyone

The dream I had last night isn't a remembered dream, except for the end and my impressions during the end. There was a vast pawn shop with multiple rooms and overtones of seedy. Behind the pawnshop there was a sad little courtyard -- or rather, in the middle of it, because the pawnshop nearly occupied an entire building, and it was the building that had the courtyard. I went in to look at the clothes, on a whim. And I remember remembering being there before, in that same pawnshop, but in other dreams, and never finding anything I wanted, because there'd either be a stain or I'd start to think about who owned the ____ before and be unable to justify to myself the getting of it. (Which is true. I can get like that about pawnshops and thriftstores.) Then I found an awesome, awesome pair of pirate costumes -- all dark wet-rose maroon and black and white -- on a mannequins between two of the pawnshops rooms. There was a woman's costume and a man's, and I debated seriously buying the man's pirate jacket, because it was so damned cool. But when I took the jacket, what was left of the costume seemed blah so I put it back figuring someone would want to buy the entire set.

Then there's a blip in my memory of the dream, and the next thing you know, there's a dead friend in the courtyard, or a friend who is dying. Who was stabbed in the gut. I'm not the only one there, and shocked. Elise is there, and so is Amal, and so are various people I do not know outside of dreams. We'd all sort of converged at the same time. The clocks in all of the neighboring shops and all of our watches or cellphones had stopped/randomly started changing around, so we didn't know what the actual time was. Perhaps that happened before the friend was stabbed, actually, because I recall there was some confusion over what time work ended. And I definitely wasn't working while I went through the pawnshopthriftstore. Or maybe time just jumped, for a more satisfyingly film noir/surreal feel.

I came up with the idea of summoning "Alcyone", who was a sea-nymph and a snow-nymph and a vengeful-maiden, and who would be able to heal the friend if we made a bargain. So everybody who was there, except for one guy, who kept a look-out in case anyone came, chanted her name. And nobody knew how to pronounce it. Heh! So everybody pronounced it differently. And I remember thinking, shit, maybe I'm not doing it right either -- but no, we have enough pronunciations that surely one of them is right, and she'll come. And then I remember thinking that I hoped this time the friend would get saved, because I always seemed to wake up as soon as Alcyone came, or as soon as the dream came to this point.

Then Alcyone came, and I woke up.
