As I was not so subtly reminded today, I have not posted in a while. I have been busy living life. I post when I have internet access (very internintent), energy (rare after I have taken care of everything I have to do on the internet), time, and motivation. The tricky part is getting all these to occur at the same moment. Hence why I do not post that often.
Currently I am reveling in the fact that it has been a wonderful day. In fact it has been two good days in a row. But that is jumping a bit. Since I posted last I have added one more country to my list of visited sites. Kevin and I went to Las Cabos, Mexico for two and half days. I am not sure it counts as going to Mexico since we stayed in a resort for the entire time but it was lovely. We just relaxed by the pool and walked on the beach. I came back very sunburnt but thoroughly relaxed. I needed the sun and the time off.
Followed that mini vacation (emphasize mini) by a good trip. I flew with two pilots that I enjoy. None of the days were too difficult but the last night was by far the best. It is one of those overnights that you will remember for a while. I ran into a friend of mine that I hadn't seen in months during a lunch break right before our last flight on the third day of our four day trip. My captain (who flew with her all last bid) and I persuaded her to come with us to Redmond for our overnight. She didn't have anything going on and was going to be able to make it onto both of our flights and I offered my room as a place to stay. So we essentially Shanghaied her for the night. Once we got to Redmond we planned on going to this brewpub we had heard about. My FO decided that he wanted to just go for a run and stay in for the night so the three of us made plans to meet up in a short time. We ended up meeting up with a 400 crew and the seven of descended on the restaurant. We had so much fun, so much laughter. It is always nice to run into another crew on an overnight to shake things up a little. This was a SEA based crew, too so it gave me the opportunity to meet some new people that I rarely see. It was also nice that we didn't drink too much and we didn't spend the majority of the night bitching about the company or the airline industry, two pitfalls of hanging out with crew members. We just enjoyed each other's company and told stories and teased each other relentlessly. It was great. Those are the nights that remind me why I love my job.
The next day we only had one leg home. Unfortunately it was way too early in the morning; we were done by six am. I went home and took a nap. When I woke I discovered that I had somehow managed to catch a cold. Spent the next four days recovering, read sleeping and being mostly miserable. But I did manage do a little knitting, reading, quilting, and watching of movies. By the fourth day I was going stir crazy and found myself cleaning my entire house and catching up on all the laundry. I did call in sick to work because even though I felt better by the time I was supposed to start me trip, my head was still clogged and that is just bad news bears at elevation. Not to mention four days of 04:30 and 05:00 show times would have just made me sicker due to lack of sleep. Considering what my ears have been doing in the last 48 hours, I am glad I stayed home.
Now back to my two lovely days. Yesterday I spent the morning running errands I had been neglecting and the afternoon with a new friend walking around Vancouver. It was an amazing day, warm but not too hot. We sat on the grass along the river walk and watched the boats on the Columbia and the planes flying in and out of PDX for a long while. Enjoying the summer day, the coolness of the grass, and each other's company. Later that night we went to Bridgeport for a tasty dinner and some good brews. It was lovely not to have a schedule or any plans for the day. Just the chance to enjoy unrushed time with a friend and follow whatever whim we wanted.
This morning I took my time getting out of bed, had a leisurely breakfast and eventually drove down to Mac to visit my parents. It has been HOT! Over 100 degrees in Mac. So a nice but very sunny ride down. I felt it was necessary to get an iced mocha in Newberg. This afternoon Mom and I went to Boersma's and Serendipity (knitting store and ice cream parlor). Then Dad made a great dinner of pork, sweet potatoes, and green beans. MMmm. A nice relaxing day at home.
Tomorrow we go to Seth and Heather's to celebrate Heather's birthday. The weekend looks to continue my streak of good days. I am a little in shock because I am managing to get to spend ten days at home (well minus tonight at Mom and Dad's). This never happens. I am reveling in it.
In other news I have been officially accepted into graduate school. Yay! School starts at the end of September.
All in all life is good. I find that I have moments of fear and worry, usually revolving around school, work, current health issues, and finances. A lot about my life in the next couple of years is still very much in the air, but I am choosing to just ride the wave and see where it takes me. If I crash, I'll pick myself up and carry on. I am a survivor, that's what I do. But I think I will sail. I am happy and content and hopeful. It is a nice place to be.
