Hours 1-8 Read-a-thon
It's now 7:45 and I've read 262 pages of my first book. This will be a quick update, as I want to finish the book (411 pages) by 9am and I'm slightly behind schedule. I'll update this post again when I'm done!
Update: Book one now finished, and I`m dithering over what to read next.

Read Johan Padan and the Discovery of America by Dario Fo and translated by Mario Pirovano, who I saw perform it a few years back. He autographed my copy of the script after the show and was absolutely lovely. Then I enjoyed a little Robert Service - "The Cremation of Sam McGee", with gorgeous paintings by Ted Harrison. The introductions by Pierre Berton and Ted Harrison were longer than the poem :)

Just finished Therese and Pierrette and the Little Hanging Angel by Michel Tremblay. I read The Fat Woman Next Door is Pregnant years ago, so I grabbed this book last weekend at a garage sale. I found the translation a little stilted, but Tremblay paints such an engrossing vision of his Montreal childhood.

Time went backwards at the arena. Jamie watched the seconds tick down on the scoreboard, bright red numbers getting smaller.
"Watch the game," her father said, but they were high above the and the players were so small she could cover them with her thumb. At home, she could sit close to the TV and see the numbers and names on the back of their jerseys, and if she missed a goal, there was always instant replay.
Above, the numbers flashed zero. Below, a whistle blew and the crowd cheered. Jamie leaned into her father's side, safely in the middle.
