...I'm so glad you could attend, come inside,
come inside.
So hello, my name is Geoff, and this is my LJ.
The first thing I should mention is that I recently moved across the country. I was laid off from my job at a Very Large Bank in April (but they paid me until July!), the lease on my apartment was up at the end of June, some friends of mine were poking me to move in with them, and so I did. I was in the north New Jersey area and moved to Seattle. While I'm still unemployed, I'm much more relaxed and less angry at, well, the entire universe than I was, and I'm pretty sure my soul decided to come back. So, you know, that's a positive.
The second thing I should mention is that I'm a straight male. (Although for a while, some people who only knew me through LJ roleplay thought I was actually a woman, mostly because I didn't do things that the average crossplayer does - one person mentioned to me the fact that my character did not have obvious-to-everyone monthly issues made her think I was a woman, and was somewhat pleased that I didn't do it mostly because a) I didn't think I could write it without screwing it up and b) most women I knew only complained about the worst of them, not all of them.)
The third thing I should mention is that I'm a magnificent gentleman. I shop at Big And Tall Stores. You know: I'm a fat guy. Moving, however, seems to be slowing working on make that change.
The fourth thing I should mention is that I am a Mac Person. I have a MacBook Pro, an iMac, an iPhone and an iPad. I tend to be connected.
The fifth thing I should mention is that I quote a lot, or sometimes attribute things to people, usually if I think it's too cliched. I'm working on that habit.
These things tend to inform my viewpoint.
Musically, I currently have songs in my usual playlist in three languages I don't speak. Bengali (Praan, the music in the video
Where The Hell Is Matt which you should watch if you haven't), Japanese (entirely too much J-Pop), and Russian (or whatever the hell the openings to the two Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex openings are sung in).
I'm re-learning my tech skills that don't involve crap with Windows networking and server fixing. Thus I'm doing a new website in WordPress, I have Adobe Master Collection CS5 on my iMac, I'm working on learning to color art (as seen on
my DeviantArt account) but I can't draw at all; I just got a new video camera (A Flip Mino) and want to start filming and learning to edit and do soundwork and FX...
Oh, I also (like so many people) have the idea for a movie in my head, but I have mine mostly written. It will, I fear, make me a target for a lot of people who will find it offensive, and yet there will be no sex or violence in it.
I think part of me is trying to merge the creative parts I've stifled for so long in favor of the purely technological interests with those interests, making the need to create stronger.
Which comes down to why I'm doing this: it's a reason and a purpose to write something that isn't drivel or ranting or nattery. It's practice to actually create.
