Hypothetical question

Say you've been dating a person for a number of years and love this person, but one day you stumble upon something that gives you proof, without any doubt, that this person has been lying about at least a quarter of his or her history to you.  Instead, this person has been feeding you stories about someone else's life.  When confronted with this ( Read more... )

I think the way you're putting your question is trying to skew the answer to something you want to hear.

Basically I found that a lot of people are stupid in a relationship. To maintain a relationship, once it's developed, is just by open and honest communications, no matter how tough it might get. However some people tend to try and cover up and sugarcoat and deceive and prevaricate and equivocate about different things. That goes well until the truth comes out.

Should it lead you to doubt the person's other doings? I would say no, and personally I don't. It's easy to look at the past and think negative about something but I would rather not, even though it might come back and hurt me in the future.

That's especially true when you want to maintain the relationship. I would lay out all the facts I've gathered, confront the person, discuss the situation, and decide based on the outcome. Usually I forgive, because that's how I roll.

It's different when you don't want to maintain it though. If I don't want to maintain a relationship I would break away from it without reason. But usually when it comes to not wanting to maintain a relationship, you'd have more reasons than you want to mention.

Now I think the relationship can be salvaged. There's a part in every man that wants to be single, and other part wants a relationship, so that doesn't really matter. And if you once loved the person then don't doubt your love.

At the end.. we are decent men in an indecent time! So sometimes we do suffer.
