Timing

Aug 14, 2010 23:56

Yeah, I don't even know what this is. Seems a shame not to post it, but it's certainly not my best work. Mediocre, at best.

Characters: Kurtz Bessel, Malik Caesars, Roberia Whatsherface.
Fandom: Tales of Graces.
Pairings: Malik/Kurtz.
Warnings/rating: PG 14? Does that exist? Idk, there's referencing to masturbation and vaguely implied sex, but nothing's actually said.
Summary: Tiny one-shot in which Roberia knows more than she lets on and Malik gets walked in on wearing nothing but a towel. Ho ho!~

Timing

Timing was never really on Kurtz's side. He knew that from the moment his mother accidentally walked in on him masturbating at the age of seventeen. That was his first time 'experimenting', too. Ever since then, people have had nasty habits of wanting to speak with him right when he was in the middle of doing something important. Or in this case, someone important. Roberia was not a girl to be kept waiting for too long, which is why he had to usher Malik into hiding, pull on his pants and shove all the remaining clothes out of sight in a matter of seconds.

Unlike his partner, Malik didn't seem all too stressed. In fact, he was almost amused at the way he was literally being shoved towards the bathroom. "Kurtz, if you'd just let me get my-"

"No, no time," Kurtz hissed through his teeth, as another round of urgent knocking rang through the apartment. "Coming!"

"If you don't hurry, I may have to assume you're being held hostage and resort to breaking the door down," Roberia's voice called from the hallway.

Sadly, it was hard to tell whether she was joking or not. The hostage thing was preposterous, of course, but Kurtz wouldn't put it past her to break the door down anyway. She was too damn curious for her own good. No, Roberia wasn't to be kept waiting at all. She might start to get suspicious if this took too long. They've had a couple of close shaves already, which was all the more reason to avoid throwing her any more hints to work with.

"I said I'm coming!" Kurtz yelled, pulling his zipper up so fast he nearly caused himself permanent damage.

"You're gorgeous when you're stressing," Malik whispered in a delicate voice. Kurtz responded by slamming the bathroom door in his face.

After sweeping a few stray socks and a shirt under his bed, he snatched a jacket from the coat rack and headed for the door. He pulled it open just as Roberia tried to knock again and her fist shot forward, only narrowly avoiding his jaw.

"O-oh, sorry Kurtz." Roberia quickly pulled her hand back, chuckling nervously when she caught sight of his disgruntled expression. "I have some things I need to discuss with you. ... In private."

Of course, whenever Roberia said "in private", it was in regards to the rebellion and the conversation would last half an hour at the least. Kurtz gave a very unenthusiastic grunt at the thought of that.

"You're not busy, are you?" She asked, peering around the room.

There wasn't a single excuse that came to Kurtz's mind, because no plausible business would be more important than rebellion matters. He grasped at straws for a few more seconds, before finally accepting there was no way out of this. So he hung his head and stepped aside to let her enter.

Roberia smiled cheerfully, stepping into the apartment. Her gaze strayed to Kurtz's bed for the briefest of moments, then came to rest on the jacket that was hanging from a chair. Malik's jacket. Of course, there was no proof it was Malik's. It was part of the standard Fendel uniform, but Kurtz could've sworn he saw her smile widening and decided to cut straight to the point.

"What did you want to discuss?"

"Oh, I just got my hands on the plans for that new Fendel Tower that's going to be built. I thought we could use it to our advantage." Roberia started to pace through the room, her eyes still drifting to the jacket on occasion. When she reached the bathroom door, she stopped walking. "Hey, do you mind if I use your-"

"NO!"

Too late. Roberia had already opened the door before Kurtz could stop her. It was quite a blessing in itself that Malik had apparently foreseen such a disaster and wrapped a towel around his waist, but it wasn't enough to quel the girl's laughter. Kurtz was just about ready to die, right then and there. It wasn't too bad if Roberia knew, but if she told anyone else about this, they were toast. These kind of relationships weren't exactly welcomed in Fendel, especially when it came down to the army. But Roberia wasn't the kind of person to spread gossip, right? ... Right?

"You pop up in the strangest places sometimes, you know that?" The girl managed to say in-between chuckles.

"Hello Roberia," Malik replied calmly, though the indignant blush on his face betrayed just how flustered he really was.

"What're you doing in there?"

"He fell," Kurtz cut in immediately, before Malik could even think of an excuse.

Ironically, the blonde was just as dumbstruck as Roberia at that response. A small silence followed. One of those silences that could literally drive a person insane if it lasted too long, so Kurtz decided to elaborate.

"In the snow. His clothes were covered with mud and he looked like a mess, so I let him use my shower."

A plausible explanation, yes, but not one Malik was satisfied with. His eyes immediately narrowed into a glare. "Hey."

"Oh, I get it! I really am sorry to walk in on you, Malik." Roberia bowed her head apologetically. "I'll let you get back to... Well, you know. And try to be more careful next time."

With that, the bathroom door was snapped shut again. Likely, Malik was seething on the other side, but at least the crisis was averted. Kurtz would deal with calming him down once he'd gotten rid of their 'guest'.

As if she were suddenly a mindreader, Roberia headed for the door. "I can see you've got your hands full. I'll come back some other time."

"What about those plans?"

"Oh, it can wait. I'll just bring it up in the next meeting," she spoke, her fingers brushing past Malik's jacket lightly as she passed it.

Kurtz scoffed lightly in response. What Roberia liked to refer to as "meetings" could be described in more detail as the three of them sitting in a dark corner of the local bar, gulping down vodkas while mocking their superiors in a drunken fit.

"Oh, and Kurtz?" Roberia paused before opening the door, looking back at him with a smile. "The next time you come up with an excuse like that, find a way to explain why your apartment is still squeaky clean. I can't assume Malik's fallen into a pool of mud if there's not a trace of it to be found here."

An incoherrent stutter escaped Kurtz's lips, but before he'd managed to string any words together, Roberia had already closed the door behind herself. He couldn't help himself; he just stared at the space where she was standing only a few seconds ago, that smirk of hers burned into his mind's eye. From somewhere behind him, he heard the bathroom door open again.

"She's got a point."

"Be quiet!"

Truthfully? I really don't know how you spell Roberia's name. It's like when I thought that woman from Dawn of the New World was called Leleena, but the localization turned her into Rileena. Stupid sidecharacters, not having official romanization.
