Character Information

General
Canon Source: Ms Paint Adventures: Homestuck
Canon Format: webcomic
Character's Name: Rose Lalonde
Character's Age: 13
Conditional: If your character is 13 years of age or under, please clarify how they will be played.
Like other players of Sburb/Sgrub, Rose is no stranger to dangerous worlds and monsters. As stated in abilities, Rose can conduct black magic through her wands and take down ogres four times her size without much problem, so she'll have no worries surviving in the Port.

What form will your character's NV take?
It will take the form of a device similar to the Saiyan's power analyzer of DBZ fame, as depicted here. It will respond to vocal commands to enable things such as text, voice and video and will be able to respond to Rose's thoughts in order to scroll through the network.

Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities:
Like all other players, Rose is in possession of a sylladex, a hammerspace storage system. Needlekind is Rose's strife specibus. This kind was at first just for normal knitting needles but Rose has alchemized them to function as magic wands. She uses these knitting needles in combat, utilizing black magic by combining the needles with a grimoire. Rose is violent in combat, taking down an ogre with nothing but a pair of knitting needles to the eyes and lazer blasting a hole in another ogre's head. She's presumably very athletic if her repeated use of youth rolls is anything to go by and is also extremely intelligent.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them?
Rose will gain the ability of mediumship, a power that will allow her to communicate with the dead, as well as summon ghosts to do her bidding, sense supernatural forces, view the spirit world, summon spirits to possess other people and perhaps also astral projection.
Requested Revisions:
Instead of granting her the ability of mediumship, I would like to revise her ability to instead work with her SBURB title as the "Seer of Light", which would mean that the Core would give her the ability for scrying, considering canon does not fully explain her black magic abilities and nowhere does it state in fandom just what they are.

Rose is shown peering into her magic cue ball a few times in canon, meaning it acts as a way for her to be able to view what is happening with her friends in their own places in the medium. With scrying, psychics need an object to be able to see events, and the cue ball allows Rose to do just that, though it doesn't always have to be the cue ball. It also allows her to connect and commune with the Horrorterrors - horrible monsters that invade troll nightmares whenever they sleep out of their recuperacoon - meaning in the Port she would be able to see and view the Darkness monsters as shown in my third person sample. This ability requires her to go into a trance in order to "see" into the magic cue ball or surface area she chooses, and what she sees will be presented to her in a feedback loop in her own voice before finally giving her the full visual image.

Weapons:
Rose will be bringing with her her strife specibus, which will include the weapons Needlewands and Thorns of Oglogoth

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: A full outline of Rose's canon history is here at MSPA:HS wiki
Point in Canon: Before discovering her mother was killed by Jack Noir and going grimdark. Leading up to this event, Rose had cut herself off from her friends in order to find a way to break the game and return them all to safety. She's grown tired of playing by the rules, plotting with Doc Scratch's guidance despite Aradia's warnings to destroy the furthest ring using her dream self. Jade pleads her to ask the magic cue ball if the Horrorterrors (monsters that plague troll dreams if they sleep without sopor slime) are as sympathetic as they seem. Rose will be taken before seeing into the magic cue ball.

Character Personality:
Sarcastic, cynical and filled with dry humor, Rose is one of the most rational characters in Homestuck and at times its anti-heroine. Viewing everything through jade-coloured glasses, Rose has a contemptuous outlook and has difficulty acknowledging that other people's actions may be sincere as opposed to a passive-aggressive jab at her or cruel irony. She's hard to get close to even though she is encouraging and tolerant of her frinds' odd quirks and enjoys the conversations she has with them.

Rose is an extremely private person. She keeps things to herself, such as her thoughts and intentions. It's hard to read what she's doing or even plans to do. As John puts it "you like to make it out like you're playing it cool and don't care much about the people in your life, but i know deep down you really do. hell, not even that deep down. it's like, um, your subconscious is having a wet t-shirt contest, and you being all aloof is this totally soggy shirt doing no good at hiding nothin'." She tries to keep herself emotionally guarded, never talking about her feelings and covering up insecurities with her intellect. This barrier is all but brought down when her mother is killed by Jack Noir whereas previously she believed her mother's actions were soley done in order to mock her through the use of cruel irony.

Rose dabbles in the grim dark and has a passion for all things macabre, especially mythology of Lovecraftian nature. She's confident she knows when actions cross the line from interests to endangering her own safety despite her friends worrying about her hobbies. She has an instinct towards gathering information, exploring and capable of grasping how things work. While her friends are important to her and a large factor of her motivation in her quest for knowledge, she can drift away from them when other things take importance. Rose has pride, and this can blind her to what needs to be done in the present.

For all her negativity and suspicion, Rose does have a sentimental side. When John sends her knitting gear as a birthday present and even though she accuses him of mocking her interestes, she does take it up, combining it with a precious family heirloom for John's birthday. She explains in a note that her lack of well wishes weren't an act of callousness but because she values his friendship to the point where simply saying "happy birthday" leaves her feeling empty and unable to believe it sends her feelings adequately. She will do anything for her friends, even by breaking the rules and approaching the game in an unconventional manner so that she may be able to save them from suffering and doom.

Character Plans:
Aside from wanting to get back into the game so she can break it to save her friends, Rose will first be making contact to ensure her friends aren't in the Port. Once she learns they are, she'll be meeting up with them and possibly living in the same apartment block. Rose will most likely not want to go home, considering all her friends are safe from their doomed session here, and she will be doing her damnedest to protect them not only from their future but from the monsters of Siren's Port.

Appearance/PB:
Deformed and a full body picture of Rose.

Writing Samples

First Person Sample
It has come to my attention that I am no longer in the session my comrades and I were making progress in. Perhaps this is a glitch in the game. In light of that revelation, maybe this world should be known as the Land of Desolation and Shadows rather than Canada. I would say the cliche "perhaps this is a dream" but I am not on Derse.

My name is Rose Lalonde and I would ask you kindly to not test my patience. I do not have time to be playing lab rat for your companies. Jade, John, Dave, if you are reading this message I would appreciate it if you contacted me.

Third Person Sample
Rose hummed thoughtfully before closing off her connection with the magic cue ball, staring slightly down at her notes. Another night of Darkness monster research still had not brought her any closer to the questions she wanted answered. She had heard rumors that they were once human souls, tortured and trapped within the Core's boundaries, unable to escape. Shutting her notebook, the young girl shifted to her feet, careful not to disturb her roommate as she swept into the kitchen to make herself some more tea.

While waiting for the kettle to boil, Rose paused to take a peek out the window nearby and into the dark of the night. She couldn't see the monsters from where she was, in the apartment she shared, but she knew they were out there. They continually fascinated her, and Darwin's texts had barely scratched the surface of the knowledge she wished to obtain. But Rose was not a fool, no. She would not willingly venture out into the dark to study these monsters in their natural habitat, especially considering the magic cue ball gave her more than enough to quell the need for knowledge at the moment. Perhaps if she was curious enough, but even a girl as young as Rose knew that curiosity killed the cat.

She paused, pursing her lips together before starting to prepare her tea, contemplating sleep after looking over her notes once more. There was school tomorrow after all, and Rose wanted to be awake bright and early.
