The coolest work shoes EVER!

Today was good. So good, in fact, that it totally made up for yesterday. I got to work early this morning, so the first thing I did was go hang out in the lab with Rick, a supervisor and a fellow Auburn fan (one of the few!). He gave me my calculator, paint can opener, pens, lab coat, safety goggles, and bright orange ball cap. Yes, I get stuck wearing a bright orange cap....it's to identify me as a new employee so that if someone sees me about to do something stupid, they can stop me and not be too pissed because they're aware I don't know any better. Hopefully that won't happen. So, anyway, after about an hour and a half of that, I watched 2 and a half hours of OSHA safety vidoes. The best by far was BBQ Hal. It had absolutely NO relevance to my job whatsoever. In fact, the one thing I learned from that video was not to use gasoline to light a charcoal grill. But the grill flying over the house in a flaming mass was pretty much worth the other 4.5 minutes of the video. After that, I went back to the lab to get my escort to the work shoe store, since I'm totally unfamiliar with the area. Get this-my work shoes are steel-toed skechers!! They're so awesome! Even better: Valspar paid!! Happy times. The only sad thing about the shoes was that there was a pair (also Skechers) that I liked better, but since they weren't ESD (fancy way of saying grounded...) I couldn't get them. But...mine are still cool. Then back to the lab, where I just looked over people's shoulders until the safety meeting at 3 and then going home.

The schedule at work isn't bad either. Start at 7, break at 9, lunch at 11:30, break at 2, leave at 3:30. Pretty sweet deal, especially after my time spent at Hallmark with the one 30 minute break when you worked 8 hours. Overall, I'm really liking the job. Of course, that doesn't mean much when you consider that I haven't actually *done* anything in the lab yet. The people are nice, the lab is pretty good, and I sure can't beat the experience. Ahh...happy times. My life may actually be slowly starting to come together. If only it weren't for that issue with the apartment....I found out today that I should definitely *not* live in the same city where I work. Bad, bad area. So....new search, back at square one, since I'm not getting the huge apartment I wanted. But, oh well. At least I've discovered that the drive, while long and costly, isn't *that* bad. I may change my tune when I have to leave here at 5:45 tomorrow though.

And that's about all I have. I'm going to get some sleep because I have an early start tomorrow *and* I have to drive to Auburn straight from work. If I don't get around to posting this weekend, you'll all hear from me again the beginning of next week. Goodnight!
